I am trying to discover what drew them to IL (most of the family
had already moved west) and if there were others that moved from
Hardin County to IL at that time also.

Jennie and others:

I too had a significant move of my WEST family from
Hardin/Wayne counties to southern Illinois between 1860-70.
Within the past year I learned that there were in-laws of this
family that had moved to ILL earlier (1840-60). I have found
in-laws to be a valuable tool in following my poorly documented
family.

All of my WEST line apparently left the Hardin area during
the civil war era. I have wondered if they left TN because of
their political beliefs, or were just trying to find a safer place
for their families.
