GENNETTA R. (SMITH) RUSSELL dau of Daniel and Clarissa O. Smith, born Hardin
Co., Tenn., Oct. 28, 1825; md Rev. J. A. Russell, Memphis Conf., Oct. 24,
1848; died Hardin Co., Tenn., Oct. 30, 1876 at residence of her brother, Dr.
P. A. Smith.

Pat,
I have been chasing Joab A. Russell around for a while. He is from Cerro
Gordo, apparently fought in the war with Mexico and was later a Capt. in the
Confederate Army and at some point became a Methodist minister. He appears
to have been an excellent soldier as his company was recognized after the
battle of Shiloh. "Tennesseans" points out that Capt. J. A. Russell and his
command fought gallantly in the ranks of the 5th Mississippi, while the
remainder of his regiment left the field.
David
