I hope this goes through to everyone. I must be the last one to hear about
this apparently very old hoax. Just in case someone else has not heard,
thought I'd let you know what happened. My mother-in-law got a letter about
the "International Stolze Family 2004 yearbook". I claimed to have many
centuries of valuable Stolze records, census, trees,..... Introductory price
about $40. I may have been born last week, but not yesterday. For some
reason, I tried to look it up on the internet. No luck. There was a picture
of a yearbook that listed a parent company -- Morphcorp. I looked that up
and found hundreds of listings including some from the biggest online
genealogy services -- Ancestry, Genealogy,....-- ALL showing it as a scam.
Evidently, if you send them your money, you get a printout of some SSDI,
phone directory, and a few other things sometimes some instructions on how
to look things up. The message boards I found were from people who had
bought books for various surnames. What few facts they got were often wrong!
I have heard others talk of getting histories in books, but this one is not
a legitimate place. They take your money and send just enough to keep from
being shut down again.
