Sometimes it seems that for some reason certain Scott/Irish families used the first name for legal purposes and were called by the middle name by family. If they were especially reluctant to give information they interchanged the names at will. However, if the Goodspeed of Missouri is correct, Francis Cobb Murrell's paternal parents were of German origin I believe it said. The North Carolina Colonial Records mention the Kaub family. Who knows!
