Hello to everyone out there. I'm a newbie at this so please be patient. I'm
looking to add to information on the above and immediate family who are
ggggrandparents on mine and who lived in Lincoln County from around 1820 to
1865 when the family moved to central Texas.
re Davis Gaines Smith, we have a birthdate approx 1790, place unknown and
died in Flat TX in 1883. His name does not show up in the Lincoln Cty 1820
census but we have original sate/county tax reciepts as early as 1840. One
receipt lists his name as Jesse Davis Smith. He used the rank of Col
although we have no record of military service.
Capt David Gaines Smith born Feb 10,1833, died Feb 11 1898 buried in the
Smith family cemetary in Flat TX. David Gaines is listed on the roster of
the 44th TN infantry, Co K. We have as yet no military records. He was
married to Elmira Hale Wittington in 1858
When the family migrated to TX after the war, they were also accompainied by
Rufus Smith a doctor, and a number of other siblings.
A grandson, my uncle was name Calvin Constant Smith. (I noted a Constant
Smith in the period of interest.)
Any additional info on our family including relatives is appreciated. If
you have other sources I can request info from would be appreciated also.
Thanks again
Lee Smith - I am named after Fitzhugh Lee who died the same year my father
was born. I'm also interested in any connection between Fitzhugh Lee and my
family. Thanks again.
