23, 1826:
We understand that Capt. G. W. HUNT, of this county, was shot by Elhanan
PRUETT on Thursday evening last, near Hazlegreen, Ala. and it was supposed
the wound would prove fatal. It is said that the cause of the quarrel which
occasioned the deed, arose from some exertions made by HUNT to recover a
horse won by gambling. PRUETT fled, and at the last account had not been
taken . . .
