this Senatorial district in the next legislature.

THE CIRCUIT COURT for this county commenced its session on Monday, the 19th,
his Honor Judge STEWART presiding. The trial of Preston GARNER, charged
with the murder of Thos. HODGES on the 24th ult. commenced on Thursday last,
and terminated on Monday night. After a full and partial investigation the
jury returned a verdict of manslaughter; and on yesterday morning the
sentence of the court was pronounced; VIZ:---branding and twelve months
imprisonment.---The cause was managed with great ability and ingenuity on
both sides; for the prosecution—Messrs. BRAMLETT, solicitor pro tem, FULTON,
GILCHRIST and BULLOCK—for the defendant, Messrs. CAMPBELL, FLETCHER, MARTIN,
M. TAUL and T. T. TAUL.
