Greetings Carrie,
I do not have much on the Helms/Hellums family. I do know that John's
second son was named William. It seems that my great grandfather Epps
Jones, took a third wife, that being Sara Frances Miles. With her he had
two children, Mary Ella Jones and Henry Luke Jones. Epps died sometime
after 1880 and Sara remarried in 1882 to John Helms.

As I recall from conversations with some of the old folks, they were a
strange lot. They would come to family events and when it came time to eat
they would all go outside the house and sit by themselves.

I understand the pride you have for the Loyalist of the revolution. During
my research I have learned many things. One of those is that only about one
third of the colonist actually wanted independence. Just like today, one
third did not care at all and the rest wanted things to remain the same.
Those that did remain loyal to England paid a heavy price when the war was
over. Everything they had was taken by the new goverment. So much for
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Well I will do more research on these folks and let you know what I find.

Macon

We all gotta color with the crayons the old folks left us !!

Macon,
In my line, the first known change of spelling from HELMS to HELLUMS was
right after the Revolutionary War.
