Jim,
I checked the images from the 1840 Lincoln Co. census
George Carter, no males under 5 years old
Crawford Carter, 1 male under 5 years old
Mathew Carter, has 1 male under 5 Years old
Eli Carter, has 2 males under 5 in the house
John Carter, has no males under 5 years old
