Virginia, I was wondering if you know what that means - "Black Dutch"? My
maternal grandmother, Susan Americus Thomas, born in 1850, used to tell my
mother that we were "Black Dutch". She was a Thomas, her mother was a
Brown, but I'm thinking that she was probably talking about her husband's
family. She married a John Gilbert or Guilbirt as a few generations back
spelled it.
