Subject: [LCT] Hello - "The Heritage of Lincoln County, Tennessee" is in the works!!!!
Date: Mon, 12 Jan 2004 16:24:10 -0500
Hello, all. I've had several requests for this, and am on the committee
for the book (many of you are no doubt familiar with the style), so I
thought I'd jet this out. I will send you the stuff I posted on the web
and sent to TV and the papers - with the update of our next meeting
time:
"...Lincoln County, Tennessee's Heritage Book Committee is preparing a
unique collection of topical and family sketches, a windfall to
historians, storytellers, libraries, and genealogists, alike!
Lincoln Co. descendants have traveled far and wide, and there have been
more advance inquiries about "The Heritage of Lincoln County, Tennessee"
than any other county book in the past thirteen years! It is with this
in mind that the committee reaches out to Tennessee Valley Area counties
and their people, to genealogical and public libraries, and to societies
and clubs…all in order to make this the spectacular tribute and record
we know it can be!
The book has all the markings of a huge success, but requires the
participation of those individuals with ties to, or roots in, Lincoln
County, TN. An open invitation is extended to participate in the
committee, and the next monthly meeting will be held on
WEDNESDAY, 4 FEBRUARY,
at 12:00 noon at Trotter's Restaurant in the Best Western Fayetteville
Inn, 3021 Thornton Taylor Parkway (the Bypass) in Fayetteville, TN.
Obviously, not everyone can make the trip to Fayetteville, but everyone
CAN participate! The committee invites all residents of, former
residents of, and those with ancestors in the county to submit a family
household genealogy/history of 500 words and one photograph (no
originals, please) to be printed free! If your ancestors arrived in
Lincoln County prior to 1836, you may submit ONE additional 500-word
Pioneer genealogy/history and another photograph to be printed free.
There is a charge for additional words, photos, or
double-wide/double-deep photos. Sponsorship/remembrance pages are
available, as well. This is a rare opportunity to take part in the
writing of your own history!
The deadline for story submissions is 30 APRIL 2004.
Due to the nature of this "chronicle," family trees, genealogical
charts, and tabular material will not be printed. Rather, stories will
be printed in a flowing, narrative form. For further information, check
out the website at www.tncountyheritage.com/, or contact Walsworth
Publishing Co. at and
.
The ultimate goal is a limited number of 9" x 12" hardbound books,
exquisitely gold stamped, and similar to many of the other Tennessee,
Alabama, and North Carolina County Heritage books. Most county
genealogical libraries or genealogical sections will have an example
available for your viewing. "The Heritage of Madison County, Alabama,"
is a good example, as are similar volumes for Jackson and Morgan
counties, White Co., TN, Surry Co., NC, and others.
Only those ordering in advance will be guaranteed a copy. This will be
a collector's edition, with stories and photos of Lincoln Co. people,
places, topics, and events…and all written by the people of Lincoln
County and their extended families. These one-of-a-kind keepsakes will
make excellent gifts for birthdays, Christmas, and other special
occasions…but the work you put into this book will be a timeless gift to
your own descendants!..."
