Check this out for something on Dempsey of LCT (about page 11):

No, not on Dempsey.

I'm related to two different Sullivan lines, one on each side of the
family. It is our guess that they link up back around 5th or earlier
grandparents, but how do we prove it?

The Sullivans are all over LCT.

Probably the only way to get near straightening them out would be to
chart them all, and that would be an entire project on it's own. My
great-grandmother was a Sullivan; her grandfather was Berry, who
married
Cynthia Emeline Marr. It is said Berry was the son of Cornelius
Sullivan, but although several of Cornelius' children can be
DOCUMENTED
as such, I haven't seen anything but hearsay regarding Berry. So how
he
links up, I don't know.

On the other side, my g-g-g-grandfather, Garnet Mansfield, Sr.,
married
Lydia Sullivan and moved from Wilson Co., TN to LCT.

Some believe Lydia may have been Cornelius's sister.

Fayetteville Observer, 15 May 1879: In a story on "Sullivan's Rock,"
we find the following note of great interest to the family search -

"The Sullivans went from North Carolina to Wilson county, this State,
and from thence to this [Lincoln Co.] and settled at the above
designated place."

Note that Joseph and Cornelius Sullivan are both at the sale of John
Mansfield's property in Wilson Co. in 1818. In the 1879 F/O Sullivan
story, mention is made of Neal and Press Sullivan. They are said to
be
cousins; the 1830 census indicates Cornelius and Preston Sullivan to
live in Lincoln County at the same time.

The aunts and uncle of Cornelius (Susan, Nancy, and Jerry) are also
mentioned in the Goodspeed history of LCT.

So we're getting lots of PURPORTED overlap here. How Dempsey fits in,
I couldn't say. It's a difficult surname to unravel.

Mr. Zielinski:
Some years ago, I believe I saw your name on the LCT researchers
site as a researcher of the Sullivan line. At that time, I think I
tried to
send you a msg regarding my research. My gr. gr. grandfather, Russell
Sullivan estimated birth according to census deduction was 1789 to
1795. He
first appeared in Johnston Co. N.C.in 1816 and was married in 1820.
His
first son, my gr. grandfather was named Dempsey Sullivan and migrated
to
Alabama and has been accounted for. Although other Dempsey Sullivans
have
been located, they are few and far between. I am curious as to
whether
you
had done any research on the ancestry of the Dempsey Sullivan of
Lincoln Co.
who married Naomi Neece there and whether you had any information as
to
his
linage.

Mike
Sullivan
