Hey,
There is a mention of a William Riley Prince of the Bedford line, who came
to Franklin county in 1851 and married Jane Holt. He was a resident of
Franklin until 1880, but soon afterwards moved to Parker County, Texas. He
was a son of Presley Prince. Hezikiah Jasper Prince, another of Presley's
sons, also settled in Franklin, but only after his brother William Riley had
left. Hezikiah settled near Winchester in the late 1890's He married Lucy
Ellen Sherrill. Their children were Nora, Laura, Med B., James C., Maggie,
and Elijah M. Prince, all of whom were raised in or near Winchester.
Another William mentioned was from the Hardy Prince Sr (1770-1855) line.
Hardy settled near Boiling Fork Creek in Franklin County sometime before
1808, making him one of the earliest white settlers in the county. In 1808
he was a member of the Boiling Fork Baptist Church. William Prince is
listed also as a member and it is thought that he was Hardy's brother., both
were married to women named sarah. They then moved to Crow Creek area near
Lost Cave. Hardy had four sons: William Prince, Nathan Prince, Hardy
Prince, JR and Michael and two daughters Sarah who married Soloman Crownover
and Margaret who married Jesse Pelham. The third line to live in Franklin
also had a William (no surprise to you I'm sure). He was William Jesse
Prince (1855-1939) and was the son of Jonathan J. Prince (1818-68), son of
Jesse Sr. Jonathan was married to Mary Ann Hammers, daughter of Jacob
Hammers and Charity Joiner. This william was a builder and help to
construct Univ. of the South at Sewanee. Both he and Hardy's son William
were called Squire William Prince, so the author cautions care when seeing
the names. There was no mention of a Jerry or Jeremiah. For later
research, I will mention that the beginning of the article statesresearch on
nearly all of the Prince families found in the South traces their lineage to
the Princes that settled in Sussex and Surry Counties in Virginia in the mid
1600's. Sorry I don't have more help. The booklet can be purchased for
$6.00 at the Franklin County Genealogy Society. Might be worth purchasing.
My line has to come from the Alabama Prince's, but I have not found the link
yet. The children were living with another family when small, but state
their parents were both born in Alabama as they were. The George W. Prince
from this line lives near them, so I am trying to make a link. They were
members of the Mud Creek Baptist church in 1822 and 1828 a member of
Larkin's Fork Baptist Church. If I were you I would search some of the
Baptist churches in Bedford for records. It doesn't mention if the Bedford
family was Baptist, but the rest were so you might deduce. Good luck and
please pass on what you find.
Michaele
