I research the Haley family and there were men named Reuben and Spencer Haley. Have you ever seen Reuben Hale's name listed as HAILE, HALEY, HAILEY or HAILY? I have especially seen HAILE (pronounced with a long "e" on the end) cross over in interpretation as both Hailey and Hale. There were Haleys in Madison Co. as early as 1821 (possibly earlier). It's a long shot, but thought I'd pass this along just in case it might help.
