(Posted on Hudson surname board as well)
I'm looking for Andrew Jackson (Jack) Hudson/Hutson, b. May 1862 in Tennessee, probably in the Meigs / Hamilton / Rhea County area. He married Mary Josephine Rockhold/Rockholt 18 Aug 1883. he died after 1910. I have found him in 1880, 1900 and 1910. I'd like to find his parents and his death date. (Also a 3,000-word biography and a picture of him and his wife in middle age, surrounded by their family, with all the names on the back. I can dream, can't I?)
His mother, Sarah, was a widow in 1880. He has at least one sibling, Mary A. Hudson, who was 15 on the 1880.
Details:
Name: Andrew Jackson (Jack) Hudson 1-5
Sex: Male
Father: (Unknown) Hudson (bet 1818 and 1843 - bef 1880)
Mother: Sarah (Unknown) (1838/39 - ???? )
Birth May 1862 Tennessee
Census 1880 (age 18) Meigs County, Tennessee
Census 1900 (age 38) Hamilton County, Tennessee
Census 1910 (age 48) Meigs County, Tennessee
Alt. Name Hutson
Marriages/Children
1. Mary Josephine Rockhold
Marriage 18 Aug 1883 (age 21) Meigs County, Tennessee
Children
William Hillard Hudson (25 Aug 1884 - 15 Jun 1980)
Frank Hudson (May 1887 - )
Henry Hudson (1893 - )
Lester Hudson (1896 - )
Jesse J/B Hudson (Jun 1899 - )
George D. Hudson (1902/3 - )
Notes:
In 1900, the family is in Civil District 3 (No PO, no incorporated area), Hamilton, Tennessee:
Jack Hudson, 38, head, May 1862, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn, farmer
Mary Hudson, 31, wife, July 1868, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
William Hudson, 15, son, Aug 1884, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
Frank Hudson, 13, May 1887, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
Son Hudson, 7, son, *** 1893, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
Lester Hudson, 4, son, *** 1896
Jesse J Hudson, 11/12, June 1899, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
Jack and Mary have been married for 15 years.
In 1910 a widowed Jack is in Meigs County:
Andrew J Hudson, 49, head, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
Henery Hudson, 16, son, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
Gester [Lester] M Hudson, 15, son, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
Jesse B Hudson, 10, son, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
George D Hudson, 7, son, Tenn, Tenn, Tenn
In 1880 a widowed Sarah is living in District 3, Meigs, Tennessee:
(Name, Relation, Marital Status, Gender, Race, Age, Birthplace, Occupation Father's Birthplace, Mother's Birthplace)
Sarah Hudson, Self, W, Female, W, 41, Tenn, Keeping House, Ky, Va
Andrew J. Hudson, Son, S, Male, W, 18, Tenn, Farming, Tenn, Tenn
Mary A. Hudson, Dau, S, Female, W, 15, Tenn, At Home, Tenn, Tenn
Arguments for this being our Andrew J (Jack) Hudson:
1) He's the only Andrew J Hudson in Tennessee born in the 1857 - 1867 year range. There are two other Andrews in Tennessee in that range, neither a J.
2) Ours will marry Mary Rockhold in Meigs County in 1883. This Andrew and his widowed mother are on p. 455D. Mary, mis-indexed as "Richhold", is just up the road on page 446A.
3) Sara's BP matches the BP for Andrew's mother in his 1900 and 1910 census entries.
Arguments against:
1) "Hudson" is a common name and "Andrew Jackson" was a popular president.
2) The 1880 isn't perfect.
3) People moved, even in 1880.
All in all, I'd bet 10:1 that this is our Andrew J Hudson.
