Most of you already know about this list, but for thoose of you who are
new you may wish to check this out! Come Join us! Debra



Dear BROWN Researcher:

Did your BROWNS ever live in Fentress or Morgan Co., TN? (Or the parts of
Overton and White Counties that became Fentress Co., TN in 1823?) If so,
this is the chance you have been hoping would happen!

Debra CROWELL and Anna BERTRAM are hosting a site called the BROWN
Clearinghouse on OneList. It's free! No obligation ever!

Remember, it is for anyone who has traced a BROWN ancestor to either
Fentress Co., TN or Morgan Co., TN regardless of how briefly they stayed,
or how long!

Just for starts, here are some BROWNS we have been looking at in early
Fentress Co., TN.

(1.) "Old" Thomas BROWN (b. abt. 1781 VA) and Lucy GENTRY (b. abt. 1781, a
daughter of Sam GENTRY, a Cherokee.

Larkin (male), b. abt. 1810, md. Annie KNIPP
Robert, b. abt. 1820, md. Vica and/or Louisa ______
Alsa "Elsey" (female), b. 1821, md. Berry HATFIELD

(2.) "Young" THOMAS BROWN, b. abt. 1808 TN, md. Mary COLE, daughter of
Ruth and Willis COLE
Children:
James, b. abt. 1825 TN, md. Sarah ANDERSON
Thomas, b. abt. 1829 TN, md. Lakey Guffie
Mary, b. abt 1833 KY
William P. "Will", b. abt. 1837 KY
George Washington, b. abt. 1838 KY

(3.) John BROWN, b. abt. 1760 - 1770, md. ________?

Possible children:
Michael, b. abt. 1808 TN, md. Elizabeth SHELTON
Henry , b. abt. 1810
Enoch, b. abt 1815 TN, md. Anna ______

Some of these early Fentress Co., TN BROWNS came from North Carolina and
settled on Clear Fork in the part of Morgan Co., TN that became Fentress
Co., TN. Some stayed in the area, while others went on in all directions.

By 1850 there were "new" BROWNS coming in from other places who were not
necessarily related to these earliest BROWN pioneers.
