CARDEN, RAY OWEN - 67, of Oak Ridge, died at 3:00 A.M., Friday May 31, 2002
at the St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville. Born December 15, 1934 in
Knoxville, he was the son of Hobert Dewey Carden and Anna Owen Carden. He
graduated from Norris High School and received a degree in Real Estate and
Business Law from The University of Tennessee. He was a member of Sigma Chi
Fraternity. He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserves. He
called Oak Ridge home since 160 and worked at Oak Ridge National Laboratory
in Inspection Engineering and K-25 in Equipment Test and Inspection for a
total of 24 years. In 1979, he left Union Carbide to devote his full time to
an apartment rental business with his wife. He was an avid reader and enjoyed
traveling with his family. He boated for most of his adult life at either
Norris Lake or Watts Bar Lake. For 25 years, he owned and enjoyed riding
horses. And, for 30 years, he owned and enjoyed riding motorcycles.
Organizations to which he had belonged included the Jaycees, Sertoma, the Oak
Ridge Riding Club, several motorcycle touring groups, and the Oak Ridge Elks
Lodge 1684. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joan Erwin Carden of Oak
Ridge; daughter, Dr. Kelly Anna Carden of Boston; step- mother, Pauline
Foster Carden of Clinton; sisters, Linda Whiteside and her husband, Jerry
Whiteside of Santa Ana, CA, Brenda Vissicchio and her husband, Joe Vissicchio
of Fountain Hills, AZ; sister-in-law, Rita Carden of Durham, NC;
step-brother, Glenn Austin of Grayson, GA; step-sister, Jane Baer and her
husband, Michael Baer of Hickory, NC. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his brother, Willliam Terry Carden. The funeral will be
at 8:00 P.M. in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Ronald
Russell officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M.,
Wednesday, June 5 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family requests that any
memorials be in the form of donations to The University of Tennessee Hospice,
2200 Sutherland Avenue, Suite 102, Knoxville, TN 37919, attention: Barbara
Sears or to the St. Mary's Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike,
Knoxville, TN 37938. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM,
Tuesday, June 4 at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.
LISENBEE, MRS. WILLIE MAE MARLOW - age 80 of Kingston, Tenn., formerly of
Lake City. She was born October 31, 1921 in Anderson County, Tenn.
Visitation, 6-9 p.m. Sunday June 2, 2002 at the Cox-Martin Funeral Home.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday June 3, 2002 at the New Hope Baptist Church in
Lake City with the Rev. George Miller & Rev. Charlie Mack Marlow officiating.
Interment will follow the funeral service, Monday June 3, 2002 at the Oak
Grove. Cox-Martin Funeral Home of Lake City in charge of arrangements.
MITCHELL, HARRY GLEASON - 83, of Lake City, Tenn., passed away Friday, May
31, 2002 at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville. He was an active member of
Lake City United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for several
years. He was a WW II veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade
M. & Effie Bennett Mitchell; brother, James Mitchell. Survivors: wife of 51
years, Wanda Sharp Mitchell of Lake City, Tenn.; son, Wade E. Mitchell &
wife, Nancy, of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandsons, Grant Mitchell & Harrison
Mitchell of Knoxville; sisters in law, Edna Ayers of Lake City, Tenn., Martha
Rutherford of Toledo, Ohio; several nieces & nephews and a host of other
relatives and friends. The family wishes to express their thanks to the
caring staff of Lake City Healthcare & UT Memorial Hospital. The family will
receive friends on Sunday June 2, 2002 from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Lake City
United Methodist Church with funeral services following at 4:30 p.m. with the
Rev. Brenda Poole officiating. Pallbearers will be Gordon Cox, Larry Becker,
David Skaggs, Jim Horton, Ray Harrell, Matt Marion & Art Wishinsky. Honorary
pallbearers will be Christy Elliott, Bill Prewitt, Charles Wormsley & Seigle
Kitts. Interment will follow the service at Leach Cemetery in Lake City. In
lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lake City Methodist Church.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City in charge of all arrangements.
REEVES, JOE CARSON - 88, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Saturday
at Methodist Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs in charge of arrangements.
THOMASON, RUTH EDNA - age 80 of Clinton, passed away Friday, May 31, 2002 at
the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was a member of First Baptist
Church in Pruden, Tenn. She retired from Union Carbide as a secretary.
Preceded in death by parents, Marshall & Myrtle Hrnsley Ruffner; brother,
Jack Ruffner. Ruth was born October 1, 1921 in Pruden, Tenn. Survivors:
husband, Joel C. Thomason of Clinton; son, Robert H. Thomason of Colorado;
stepdaughters, Frances Anderson & husband, Grant of West Minister, Maryland,
Diana Thomason of Norris.; sisters, Irene Ruffner Williams of Knoxville,
Dorothy Ruffner Potter & husband, Alvin of Jellico, Peggy Ruffner & husband,
Bill of Morristown; brother, Carl Lee Ruffner & wife, Pearl of Morristown;
sister in law, Marcella Ruffner of Michigan; special friend, Jennie Hill of
Oak Ridge; dearly loved by several nieces & nephews. The family will receive
friends 5:30-8 p.m. Sunday June 2, 2002 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with
funeral services following in the chapel with Dr. Paul Frick officiating. The
interment will be 1 p.m. Monday at Anderson Memorial Garden. Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Clinton in charge of all arrangements.
