BIBLE, MR. JAMES HARRISON - age 89, of Wartburg, passed away Thursday, July
11, 2002, at the Lifecare Center of Morgan County. He is survived by his
wife, Lillie Bowers Bible; daughter, Earlene Singleton Gregory of Harriman;
sons and daughters-in-law, James W. and Karen of Spring City, Douglas M. and
Patricia of Dover, Tenn., Donald W. and Kathy of Wartburg, Coy Lee of
Knoxville, Roy Dale and Cheri of Wartburg, and Roger Allen of Coalfield;
eleven grandchildren and four great- grandchildren; brothers, Harley and
Junior Bible, both of Maryville. The family will receive friends Friday, July
12, 2002, from 5-7 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg Chapel. Funeral
service will begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. Herb Judkins officiating. A private
burial will be held on Monday in Anderson Memorial Gardens.

DAVENPORT, RAY DONALD - 66, a resident of Oliver Springs. Friends may call
Friday between 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home. Graveside
service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Kingston Memorial Garden. Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs in charge of arrangements.

DUNCAN, BARBARA - 45 of Oliver Springs. Friends may call Saturday between 6-9
p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the
Indian Creek Baptist Church. Sharp Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

HALDEMAN, AMY JANE GRANGER - age 81, of Andersonville, passed away Tuesday,
July 9, 2002, at the Mariner Healthcare Center. Mrs. Haldeman was the
daughter of the late Willoughby and Armour T. Granger, who was a former Dean
of Engineering at the University of Tennessee. She attended the University of
Tennessee for one year and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Douglass College in
New Jersey. She was married in the original Second Presbyterian Church in
downtown Knoxville, and was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian
Church in Berkeley Heights, N.J. Mrs. Haldeman was a Librarian for many years
in Berkeley Heights, N.J., and at one time served as the Librarian for the
Lawson McGhee Library, and drove the Bookmobile. She is survived by her son
and daughter-in-law, James Albert and Margo Haldeman of Berkeley Heights,
N.J.; daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte Elise and Ronald Lee Klieman of
Knoxville, and Barbara Jane and Lindell Burnett of Norris; seven
grandchildren, Lee Edward Klieman and wife, Hajnalka, David Granger Klieman,
Lauren Elizabeth Burnett, Jesse Daniel Burnett, Patrick James Haldeman and
wife, Melissa, Ryan Scott Haldeman and Meghan Lynn Haldeman, and a sister and
brother-in-law, Emily and William Hinman of Myrtle Beach, S.C. The family
would like to say a special thanks to the staff of Mariner Healthcare for
their loving care of our mother. Graveside service for Mrs. Haldeman will be
conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Highland Memorial Cemetery. A memorial
service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Second Presbyterian
Church with Dr. Arnold Lovell officiating. The family will receive friends
immediately following the service at the church. The family request, memorial
contributions be made to the Armour Granger Professorship Fund, c/o the

KING, LESTER "LES" JAMES - age 74, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, July 10,
2002, at the Methodist Medical Center. He was born October 31, 1927, in West
Warwick, Rhode Island, the son of Edward Jones King and Audrey Viola Bates
King. Mr. King was Manager of the Transuranium Processing Plant (TRU) for the
Chemical Technology Division. He received B. S. and M. S. degrees in chemical
engineering from the University of Rhode Island and served two years in the
US Air Force before joining the Chemical Technology Division in 1954. He
worked on the OREX and THOREX process pilot plant projects and attended the
Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology in 1956-1957. Following ORSORT, he was
group leader for a cooperative ORNL/Westinghouse project to operate in-pile
test loops in the Oak Ridge Research Reactor to study the use of thoria
slurries for the Pennsylvania Advanced Reactor. This was followed by a
variety of assignments in high-level and low- level liquid radwaste process
development, reactor fuel cycle studies and other facets of radiochemical
reprocessing. Mr. King became TRU Technical Group Leader in 1965 and Manager
of TRU in 1972. In 1979, he was a member of the ORNL group that provided
assistance following the Three Mile Island reactor accident and helped
develop the chemical process that was used to decontaminate the water
released by the accident and the reactor coolant. He has been a member of the
Director's Radioactive Operations Committee since 1978. Mr. King served as
Asst. Section Head, Isotope Technology Section, Chemical Technology Division
from 1991 until his retirement in 1993. Mr. King was a registered
Professional Engineer and a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edward King
and Russell King. He is survived by wife, Marie 'Terri' King; sons, Greg King
of Houston, Texas, Bob King and wife, Debbie of Oak Ridge, Steve King and
wife, Lori of Knoxville; daughter, Judy King and husband, Garry of
Gatlinburg; grandsons, Matthew and Michael King and Jason Mick, and
granddaughter, Cheryl Mick, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be on Saturday, July 13, 2002, at 8:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with
Rev. Claire Keene officiating. Private graveside services are Sunday, July
14, 2002, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family asks that any memorial
contributions be made to the Lester J. King Memorial Endowment Fund, payable
to the University of Rhode Island Foundation, 95 Upper College Road,
Kingston, RI 02881. The family will receive friends on Saturday from
6:00-8:00 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.

SMITH, CHLOE BLANKENSHIP - age 93 of Knoxville, Tenn., died 12:50 p.m.
Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in Harlan, KY. She was born December 8, 1908 in
Campbell County, Stanfill Community, Tennessee. Member of Oakwood United
Methodist Church. Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clarence
Smith; grandson, Kevin M. Stewart; parents, Laura B. and Dan Blankenship;
brothers, Earl, Arvid, and Maynard; sisters, Jimmie and Hattie. Survivors:
daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Jack Bowman; grandson, Jason Stewart, all
of Knoxville; brother, Noble Blankenship, Mountain Home, Idaho; sisters,
Mabel Gibson, Lawrenceburg, IN, Nell Dodson, Totz, KY, Edna Chessar, Gulston,
KY; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends
will meet at Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m.
graveside service and interment. Rev. Martin Fischer officiating. Family will
receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at
Broadway.

WEST, CHARLES MAXWELL (HAP) - age 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 10,
2002, at NHC Nursing Home in Knoxville. He was a retired Certified Health
Physicist, having worked many years at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant and Oak Ridge
Associated Universities. He was a Charter Member of The '43 Club, a group
recognized for original efforts related to the Manhattan Project. He authored
or co-authored 23 papers on health physics, industrial hygiene, and
epidemiology. He was designated a Fellow in the National Health Physics
Society in 1985, in recognition of outstanding contributions to the
profession of Health Physics. He served as a consultant to the International
Atomic Energy Agency and as a representative of the United States Government
to finalize an IAEA publication on safe handling of radionuclides. He was a
member of the Health Physics Society Standards Committee / American National
Standard Institute. He was active in Toastmasters International and held
various offices in his local chapter. He was a member of St. Marks United
Methodist Church, Clinton. Preceded in death by parents, Rev. John Pierce and
Doris Maxwell West. Survivors, wife of 43 years, Evelyn Wear West of
Knoxville; children, Angleque Bryson and husband, Roy of Aiken, S.C., Brian
West and wife, Tamela of Katy, Texas; sisters, Rachel Shelton of Knoxville,
Mary Irvin of Hueytown, Ala., Francis Reaves and husband, Charlie of
Hueytown, Ala., Doris McKay of Guinn, Ala.; brother, Rev. Pete West and wife,
Betty of Chillersburg, Ala.; sisters-in- law, Helen Talley of Townsend,
Shirley White and husband, Troy of Maryville; brother-in-law, Bill Wear and
wife, Jackie of Alcoa; grandchildren, Kimberly Langston, Emily Bryson, and
Michelle Mirelas, and great-granddaughter, Allison Mirelas. The family will
receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Holley Gamble
Funeral Home, Clinton. A memorial service celebrating Hap's life will be held
at 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home following visitation, with the Rev. John
Clark and the Rev. Glenn Patterson officiating. Interment will be at Sherwood
Memorial Gardens, Alcoa, on Sunday, July 14, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 4708
Papermill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37909. Holley Gamble Funeral Home, of Clinton,
in charge of all arrangements.
