EUNA JUANITA SMITH LOTT, 96, of Adamsville, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at
Methodist Healthcare in McNairy-Selmer, Tenn.
Mrs. Lott is survived by her daughter, Jean Lott Smith of Oak Ridge.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, in Shackelford Funeral
Directors of Savannah's Adamsville Chapel. Burial will follow at Morris
Chapel Cemetery in Morris Chapel.
MARY SUE BUNCH, 58, of Petros, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Methodist
Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Bunch was a member of the Family Worship Center in the Stephens
community.
She was the widow of the Rev. Loyd Bunch Sr.
Mrs. Bunch is survived by her children, Loyd Bunch Jr. and Angela Daugherty
and her husband, Roy, all of Petros; three grandchildren, Diana Bunch, Bobbie
Jean Daugherty and Mary Ruth Hembree; two sisters, Peggy Patterson and her
husband, Daniel, of Harriman and Shirley Taylor and her husband, George, of
Jacksonville, N.C.; a brother, Roger Duncan of Petros; and several other
relatives.
Norma Meredith and Theresa Chaney were considered special friends.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bunch was preceded in death by her parents,
John and Floida Duncan; her father- and mother-in-law, Floyd and Dessie
Duncan; another sister, Barbara Lee Duncan; and another brother, Donald
Duncan.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, July 14, at the Family Worship Center
in Stephens with the Rev. Frank Price officiating.
Burial followed in Petros Cemetery.
Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg was in charge of arrangements.
LILLIAN "Momma Bear" P. STEPHENSON, 87, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at
Windwood Health and Rehab Center in Clinton.
Born Aug. 3, 1914, in Chester County, South Carolina, she was the daughter of
William and Lula Ramsey Peay. She was a 1932 graduate of Greenville Business
College in Greenville, S.C.
Mrs. Stephenson was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Dutch Valley
where she had formerly been a Sunday school teacher.
She was a former bookkeeper for Portwood Cleaners, Hoskins Drug Store,
Cinderella Beauty Shop and Queener Flower Shop, all in Clinton, and in later
years she worked as the bookkeeper for her two sons at Stephenson Realty and
Auction Co. and Blind Ambitions.
She was the widow of Garven R. Stephenson.
Mrs. Stephenson is survived by her two sons, William "Bear" Stephenson and
Warren Stephenson, both of Clinton; her sister, Pauline Cooper of Chester,
S.C., her brother, Bobby H. Clack and his wife, Betty Faye, of Oak Ridge; and
by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and her parents, three other sisters, Betty Ray,
Connie Roddy and Hazel Peay, preceded her in death.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Pleasant Hill Baptist
Church. The Rev. David Hanes will officiate. Viewing will be during the hour
prior to the service.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 510 Old Dutch Valley Road, Clinton, TN 37716.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, July 15, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
EMMA JEAN FIELDER GAYLOR, of 120 Northwestern Ave., died Saturday, July 13,
2002, at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge. She was 75.
Born Oct. 17, 1926, in Dickson, Tenn., she was the daughter of Emma Haley
Fielder and Stephen Ford Fielder and a high school graduate.
Mrs. Gaylor was a homemaker whose interests included her children and
grandchildren and working with flowers, playing cards, and doing volunteer
work.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Mrs. Gaylor is survived by her husband, Ben W. Gaylor; and her children,
Ronnie W. Gaylor and his wife, Joyce, Deborah Ann Shanks, Pamela Jean
Schreiber and her husband, Eddie, and Melissa Leigh Keys and her husband
Steve.
She is also survived by six grandchildren, Stephanie Hope, Brandt Gaylor,
Kyle Schreiber, Carrie Schreiber, Alex Keys and Amy Keys; and two
great-grandchildren, Ty Gaylor and Carson Hope; three sisters, Fran Skelly,
Ann Greene and Sara Dexter; and a brother, Homan Fielder.
In addition to her parents, two other sisters, Carolyn Fussell and Mavis
Orgain, and two other brothers, Phillip Fielder and Julian K. Fielder,
preceded her in death.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, July 15, at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral
Home. Randy Fielder, nephew of Mrs. Gaylor, will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
VERONN O. "V.O." MAGGART, a longtime resident of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, July
14, 2002, at NHC HealthCare in Farragut.
Mr. Maggart was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II who served on the
submarine USS Balero in the South Pacific. He was in the Navy from 1942 to
1944.
Originally from Carthage, Mr. Maggart moved to Oak Ridge in 1944, when he
went to work for Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He retired from ORNL in 1982.
In his retirement years, he served as bailiff for the Oak Ridge City Court.
Mr. Maggart was a member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church in Oak
Ridge.
He was active in the local Democratic Party and was a lifetime member of the
Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 1684.
Mr. Maggart is survived by his wife, Virginia Burton Maggart; his son, James
Richard Maggart of Clinton; his daughter, Anne Teasley and her husband,
Glenn, of Knoxville; his granddaughter, Ashley Teasley of Knoxville; and his
sister, Willodean Barnes of Cookeville.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Paul
Petretzkey of Oak Ridge; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, D. Allison and
Peggy Burton of Clinton; and sisters-in-law, Louise Maggart of Carthage and
Lona Maggart of Murfreesboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eula and Vernon O. Maggart Sr., and
four brothers, Harry Maggart, A.V. Maggart, Lon Maggart and Oliver Maggart.
The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, in the chapel at Martin
Oak Ridge Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Flynn and the Rev. E.C. Vestal will
officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Oak Ridge
Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
