Mary Elizabeth and Mary Jane Duren were twins, born 20 March 1888.

Mary had 4 children, Claude Singelton (when the book was published he lived in St. Louis), Lester Tharp, Grady Tharp and Virgie Tharp Reid all deceased.. In 1910 Mary Eliz and her family lived in a log cabin Morella Community (between Kenton and Mason Hall, TN). On Feb 11, 1918, she died of TB at Hornbeak, TN and buried at Antiock Cemetary.

Claude lived with his stepfather for a time and then lived with an uncle Tom Duren at Macedonia. . In 1023, Claude helped build the Obion levee.. In 1931, he married Eva Rhodes. They farmed near Kenton for a few years and then moved to St. Louis. They had 3 daughters: Claudia, Shirley and Brenda.

Father of the twins was Jay Hue Duren.. 1858-1909
Mother was Lucindy (Sis) Tatum 1858-1921.
Children other than the twins Tom, Bob, John, Walker, Charles, Dubie, Lila Lane, and Effie Hundley..

Grandparents.. Joseph J. Tatum 1830-1864
Margaret A Dabbs 1832-1923
Married 13 Feb 1851
