Bessie Davis

Completed arrangements are being announced for Bessie May (Thorpe) Davis, 99, of District No. 7, who died at Obion County Nursing Home Jan. 29, 2004.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Royce Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Cobbs Chapel Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. today.

Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will be pallbearers.

Mrs. Davis was born Oct. 24, 1904, in Obion County, daughter of the late William Hosie and Sophronie (Woods) Thorpe. She married John Frank Davis May 7, 1920. He died May 7, 1958. She had been a machine operator for the former Salant and Salant in Union City and had been a sitter at the former Obion County General Hospital.

She was a member of Berea Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter, Loretta Catherine Yager of Nashville; her son, Frank Davis of Rives; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Les Thorpe, Henry P. Thorpe, Milton Thorpe, Jack Thorpe and Austin Thorpe; her son, Donald Davis; and her grandson, Jimmy Davis.
