Jesse Harris

Completed arrangements are being announced for Jesse Winston Harris, 90, of Union City, who died Jan. 28, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Andrew Henry officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home 5-7 this evening.

Pallbearers will be Marion Reithel, John David Kendall, Marty Corum, Tony Davis, Bryan Harris and Brennan Harris.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Union City Civitan Club, members of the Character Builders Sunday School Class of Union City First United Methodist Church and his caregivers: Pam Davis, Vera Newman and Angie Simbeck.

The family requests that memorials be made to Union City First United Methodist Church.

He was born Sept. 29, 1914, in Obion County, son of the late Charles L. and Annie Lou (Reaves) Harris. He married the former Ruth Gates Dec. 29, 1940. She died March 2, 2003. He had been senior vice president of the former Old & Third National Bank, where he worked for more than 40 years. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served on board the U.S.S. Mississippi and was a member of Union City First United Methodist Church and the Character Builders Sunday School Class. He was a founding member of Union City Civitan Club and had served as president 1966-67. He was named Mr. Civitan in 1968 and in 1996 was awarded the International Foundation Fellow Award from Civitan International. A graduate of Union City High School, he was captain of the 1931 undefeated football season and was the team's last surviving member.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Lanny W. and Connie Harris of Overland Park, Kan.; two grandsons and their wives, Bryan and Heidi Harris of Denver and Brennan and Terri Harris of Williamsburg, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Harris, Sydney Harris and Jake Harris, all of Williamsburg; and his sister, Martha Harris of Union City.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Harris and Laudell Harris; and two sisters, Stacy Harris and Blanche Deaton.
