Subject: Another piece of the Jacob Arney puzzles mystery
Date: Wed, 9 Aug 2006 04:50:03 -0700 (PDT)
Hi Folks,
You all know me as a genealogy detective trying to
solve the mystery of my Arney ancestors, more
specifically, Jacob Arney.
It seems the more pieces of the puzzle I find, the
more confusing it seems to get.
First, it was believed that Jacob Arney was the son of
Frederick Ernigh, who arrived in the USA in 1732.
A piece of the puzzle provided by Tom Rider, proved
that could NOT be a possibility.
So, by tracing my ancestors backwards, Peter Arney was
born in Tryon County, NC in 1772. Peter later moved
to Virginia before settling in Tennessee.
Documentation (his will) shows that Jacob Arney died
in 1784 in Lincoln County, NC.
Documentation (his will) shows that Peter's brother,
Christian (born in 1750 in York County, PA), died in
1834 in Lincoln County, NC.
Documentation shows (tax rolls) that Peter Arney was
in Jackson County, TN in 1802.
Now, I just received information I had not seen or had
access to before that throws a "potential" bombshell
into this possibility.
In an article submitted by Cloyd Arney on Jacob and
Elizabeth Arney. It is published in the Overton
County History Book.
Here is an interesting exert:
"Jacob Arney, born 1750 in Pennsylvania, married
Elizabeth-. They had one son Peter, born 1772 in
Lincoln County, North Carolina. The family moved to
Wythe County, Virginia, from there they moved in 1799
to Jackson County, Tennessee. Jacob purchased land
near the Obey River near what is known as Duncan
Bottom. After Clay, Overton, and Pickett Counties
were formed, it was located in the edge of Pickett
County, TN."
First of all, it states that Jacob Arney was born in
1750. If so, he could NOT possibly be the father of
Christian Arney also born in 1750.
Secondly, it states that Jacob Arney moved with Peter
to Virginia and on to Tennessee purchasing land around
1799. If so, he could NOT possibly be the same Jacob
Arney (father of Christian and Peter Arney) who died
in Lincoln County, NC in 1784, could he!
So, you see sometimes the more you find, the more
confusing it can get.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank
you.
Sincerely,
Stan Arney
