Hi again to all. I've had so many request that I decided to send this out
to the list. Hope you folks don't mind. Just to update everyone who has
requested a look-up, I am in the process of scanning the book (which is
nearly done) so that I can simply cut and paste the page that has your
surname into an e-mail. I have scanned through the letter "P" and have
started responding to some and hopefully will get everyone's response by the
end of the week. I am finding it to be a little annoying to paste the page
with the County abbreviations every time I respond to an e-mail so I am
pasting that info below. If you have requested a look-up, I would ask you
to print this so that I no longer need to paste it in each e-mail, but
instead, only need to paste the page with your surname.

Please be patient and you will have your response soon.

KEY TO COUNTY SYMBOLS

The symbol is followed by name of county and then the earliest year estate
records can be found. If an asterisk (*) follows the county name, this means
only wills appear in this volume.

INTRODUCTION

This work is an attempt to name all wills and most administrations found in
the 62 Tennessee counties where such records, through 1861, have survived.
Each entry is as follows:

Name of deceased; year of the probate, or of first mention of the estate;
where the original record can be found; county symbol (see key to county
symbols).

Identification of where the record can be found is represented by the
following symbols:

abl Administrators bonds & letters
Alpha No page #s--in alphabetical order
as Administrators settlements
db Deed book
eb Estate book
gs Guardian settlements
ib Inventory book
Ir Loose records
lw Loose wills
mr Miscellaneous records
rb Record book
wb Will book
# Page # is from a published book--see
bibliography

This symbol is followed by the letter or number of the record book, and then
the page number. If the book has pagination errors we have placed an
asterisk (*) after the page number to indicate this is the second page of
that number in the book. Where no symbol as above is shown we have used the
microfilm roll number in place of a symbol. If the deceased was black we
used a capital B in parentheses.

With few exceptions the names in the index were taken from microfilmed
copies of the original county records. This microfilm is available at the
Tennessee State Library & Archives in Nashville.
