JONES, MR. CHARLIE RUBEN - age 83, of Oliver Springs, passed away Tuesday
morning, February 9, 1999, at his home, after a lengthy illness. He was a
member of Union Baptist Church in the Joyner Community. Mr. Jones' hobbies
included gardening and fishing. He was preceded in death by: parents, Albert
and Lula Jones; brothers, David, Russell and Gentry Jones; sister, Thelma
Wilson; stepsons, Leonard B. Ruffner and Ralph Moore. Mr. Jones is survived
by: wife, Eva Rankin Jones; daughters, Shirley Daugherty, Darlis Campbell,
both of the Stevens Community, Azalee Hensley of Oliver Springs; son, Arnold
Jones of the Stevens Community; stepdaughter, Betty Vannorstran; stepson,
William L. Ruffner, both of Oliver Springs; brother, Wilburn Jones of
Crossville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral service
will be held Thursday, February 11, 1999, at 11 a.m., at Schubert Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Gary Smith and Rev. Elmer Bonifacius officiating. Interment
will follow in Morgan Memorial Gardens, Wartburg. The family will receive
friends Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m., at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg.

GRIGSBY, MR. HENRY J. - age 81, of Grigsby Street, Harriman, passed away
Tuesday, February 9, 1999, in his home. He was a member of the Cardiff Baptist
Church, Southgate Masonic Lodge #569 and a retired employee of Burlington
Industries as a Fixer with 35 years service. He was preceded in death by:
wife, Irene Ryans Grigsby. He is survived by: sons and daughters-in-law,
Harold E. and Betty Grigsby, J.C. and Gail Grigsby, Henry A. (Bub) and Pat
Grigsby, all of Harriman; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn S. and Bill
Goldston, Harriman; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral
services will be conducted Wednesday evening at 8 p.m., from the Chapel of
Evans Mortuary with Rev. Mason Goodman and Rev. John Shaw, Chaplain with the
Covenant Hospice Program, officiating. Graveside services and interment will
be held Thursday morning at 11 a.m., in the Oak Grove Cemetery. The family
will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the Evans Mortuary.
Evans Mortuary, Rockwood, is serving the family of Mr. Henry Grigsby.

VESS, JAMES M. - age 86, formerly of Knoxville, passed away Monday, February
8, 1999, at Marshall Voss Nursing Home in Harriman. He was preceded in death
by: his wife, Mary Vess; brothers, David and Jack Vess. Survivors: nieces,
Beverly Ogle, Stella Nelson, Patsy Bittle; nephews, Richard, Leon, Raymond and
Curtis Vess. Funeral services 8 p.m., Wednesday at McCarty Mortuary with Rev.
Norman Smelcher officiating. Everyone will meet at 10:45 a.m., Thursday in
Asbury Cemetery for an 11 a.m., committal service. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that donations be made to the Blessed Hope Baptist Church in
Knoxville. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday at McCarty
Mortuary, 4004 Holston Drive.
