McKINNEY, MARY EMMA OAKES - age 84, of Harriman, formerly of Powell, died
Saturday, March 27, 1999, at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. Member
of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge, 50 year member and past
Matron of Powell chapter 335 Order of the Eastern Star, chapter member and
past Royal Matron of Charity Court 17 Order of the Amaranth, was currently
serving as Grand Representative to North Carolina, member of Ruth Shrine 5
order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, past mother advisor and past state
mother advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for girls and master
of the Grand Cross of Color. Retired from the purchasing department of Union
Carbide, Oak Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years,
William Woodrow McKinney. She is survived by: daughters, Rosemary Wells of
Harriman, Barbara and husband, Gary Hall of Harriman; granddaughters, Mary
Louise Wells of Kingston, and Cynthia Campbell of Durham, N.C.; step-
grandchildren, Eric Hall of Kingston and Tammy McCarroll of Harriman; two
great-granddaughters; four step, great-grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-
law, Raymond E. and Ann Oakes, Sr. of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Louise Oakes
of Anderson, Ind., Earsal Thomas of Knoxville, and Boleda Dixon of Knoxville;
several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 5:30-8 p.m.
Tuesday with an Order of the Amaranth service at 8 p.m. with funeral service
in Kyker Chapel, the Rev. W. Jean Richardson and the Rev. Vernon Sanson
officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday for an 11
a.m. graveside service and burial. Memorial donations may be made to the
Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, c/o Wanetta C. Rutledge, 513 Floriade Way,
Knoxville, TN 37923-3505. Kyker Funeral Home, Kingston, in charge of
arrangements.
