NEWPORT, MR. GARLAND, SR. - age 83, departed this life Monday April 23, 2001
at the Roane Medical Center in Harriman. He was born November 26, 1917 in
Scott County to the late Delus and Ida Bell Newport. He is also preceded in
death by his brother, Erman and Earl; sisters, Fena, Olith, Celia and 2
infant sisters. Garland was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the
Civilian Conservation Corp. He worked for many years at Yankee Lumber Company
in Harriman. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Juanita Terry Newport;
daughters & sons in law, Geneva and Ted Melhorn, Lancing, Roberta & Keith
Price, Oliver Springs, Barbara Newport of Wartburg; son & daughter in law,
Garland, Jr. and Anita Newport of Jefferson City, Tenn.; grandchildren, Derek
and wife, Stephanie Newport of Jefferson City, Craig Price and fiancé, Leah
Totten, Bekah Price and fiancé, Dewayne Massengale of Oliver Springs; great
grandchildren, Kalyn, Clayton and Cale Newport of Jefferson City; brothers,
Bill Newport of Harriman; sisters, Pauline Prince of Torrence, Calif. and
Ruby Cunningham of Sparta, Tenn. The family will receive friends Tuesday,
April 24, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral
services will begin at 8 p.m. with Rev. Keith Price officiating. Graveside
services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. in Liberty Church Cemetery where he
was a member.
