NEWPORT, MR. CLIFTON - age 80, of Oneida, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday
afternoon, July 25, 2001, at his home. He was born in Scott County on March
12, 1921, and is the son of Fletcher Newport and Delphia Sexton Newport.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Zondria Kay
Martin and one son, George Anthony Duncan. He was of the Baptist faith, and
was a truckdriver for Roadway Express. He retired in 1981. He is survived by
his wife of 54 years, Madlynne Newport; two daughters, Elizabeth Phillips of
Knoxville and Erma Laxton and husband, Mike of Hurricane, West Virginia; one
son, Jerry Newport and wife Debbie of Robbins, Tennessee; four
granddaughters, Tammy Phillips, Amanda Duncan, Ashley Martin and Cheyenne
Newport; four grandsons, Jared Laxton, Shane, Jody, and Tyler Martin; two
special family members, Donda Duncan and Kenneth Martin, and several nieces
and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be
Friday evening, 8:30 p.m. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida
with Rev. Joe Blevins and Rev. Joe Walker officiating. The Mason family will
sing. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Carson Memorial Cemetery. The
family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8:30 at West-Murley Funeral
Home. West-Murley Funeral Home, of Oneida, is in charge of arrangements of
Clifton Newport.
