JOEL TIMOTHY HORNE, 43, of Oak Ridge, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at his
home.
Born Aug. 26, 1958, in Americus, Ga., he was the son of Terrell and Connie
Horne of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Horne served with the U.S. Coast Guard for eight years and with Premier
Cruise Lines for nine years. His employment has included World Computer Inc.
and CKY Inc. Environmental Services, assigned to Lockheed Martin Energy
Systems' Hazardous Waste Remedial Action Program.
He attended First United Methodist Church and was serving as secretary of the
Oak Ridge Kiwanis Club, where he was named a Kiwanis International Hixson
Fellow.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Horne is survived by his children, April
Marie Horne and Timothy Jason Horne, both of Dayton, Ohio; his brother, Terry
Horne and his wife, Phyllis, of Merritt Island, Fla.; his sister, Amy
Thompson and her husband, Ralph, of Oak Ridge; and by seven nieces and
nephews, one grandniece and two grandnephews.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at First United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Mooney officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Oak
Grove Cemetery in Americus. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Saturday at Hancock Funeral Home in Americus.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Kiwanis International World Service Project, c/o Kiwanis International
Foundation, IDD, 3636 Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, IN 46268; or to First
United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 4669, Oak Ridge, TN 37831.
Locally, the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at First
United Methodist Church.

RUBY OPAL JEFFERIES, 84, of Oliver Springs, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born March 15, 1917, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Roland and
Parley Melton Jeffers. She had lived in this area all of her life.
Mrs. Jefferies was a homemaker and a member of Oliver Springs Church of
Christ.
She is survived by her son, Ray Jefferies of Lancing; three daughters, June
Worthington of Harriman, Phyllis Ann McKinney and her husband, Burlin, of
Oliver Springs and Rena Andrews and her husband, Earnest, of Clinton; one
sister, Anna Johnson of Michigan; and by nine grandchildren, nine
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 8 tonight, Jan. 23, at Oliver Springs Church of
Christ with Richard Powlus officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Oak
Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the church.

Former Oak Ridge nurse
MARGARET ADELL VALENTINE BIGGERS, 68, of 83 Crossroads Lane, Fishersville,
Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Augusta Medical Center in
Fishersville.
She was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Park Rapids, Minn., the daughter of Charles
Campbell and Lila Claire Daly Valentine.
Mrs. Biggers was a retired nurse and received her nurse's training at Swedish
Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn. Over the course of her life
she had worked at Oak Ridge Hospital, Emory University Hospital in Atlanta
and Park West and Baptist hospitals in Knoxville.
She is survived by two sons, Jonathan E. Biggers of Binghamton, N.Y., and
Fredrick S. Biggers and his wife, Caroline Runyan Biggers, of Staunton, Va.;
three brothers, Charles Kenneth Valentine of Oak Ridge, Fredrick Valentine of
Syracuse, N.Y., and Richard Johnson of Minneapolis; a sister, Helen V.
Redgrave of Park Rapids; two grandchildren, Claire Valentine Biggers and
Samuel Runyan Biggers; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Trinity
Episcopal Church in Staunton.
The family will receive friends following the service.

Retired millwright, mechanic
WILLIAM EVERETT HAYNES, 75, of Heiskell, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at East
Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.
Born Aug. 22, 1926, in Anderson County, he was the son of D.F. and Lottie
Pickett Haynes, who are deceased.
Mr. Haynes was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II.
He had retired as a millwright operator with Southern Extract in Knoxville
and later retired as a maintenance mechanic with Briggs Inc. in the Forks of
the River area of Knoxville.
He was a Baptist.
Mr. Haynes is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juanita Haynes; two
daughters, Linda Haynes of Heiskell and Shirlene Mink and her husband, Eddie,
of Powell; a grandson, Bryan Mink of Knoxville; two sisters, Carolyn Whitsell
and Wilma Patt, both of Powell; three brothers, Vernon Haynes, Benny Haynes
and Roy Haynes, all of Powell; and several nieces and nephews.
Ernie Underwood of Strawberry Plains was considered a special friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by another sister, Mary
Frank France; and five other brothers, Leon Haynes, Clifton Haynes, Buddy
Haynes, Jack Haynes and Arthur Haynes.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at
Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton. The Rev. Jack Anderson will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Jan. 23, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
Sister of Paul Campbell
BETTY ELIZABETH CAMPBELL MILLS, 74, of Asheboro, N.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 22,
2002, at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Mrs. Mills is survived by her daughter, Julia Spivey and her husband, James,
of Asheboro; her brother, Paul Campbell of Oliver Springs; two sisters,
Dorothy Briggs of Salisbury, N.C., and Lou Rose of Asheboro; and by one
granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in the chapel of Pugh
Funeral Home in Asheboro with the Rev. Ron Hamilton officiating.
Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to a
children's charity of the donor's choice.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Jan. 23, at the funeral
home.
OSCAR JOSEPH "O.J." TURMELLE Jr., 77, of Oak Ridge, died this morning, Jan.
23, 2002, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
