Kenneth C. Bailey, 77, of Speedwell, died on Feb. 10, at Methodist Medical
Center of Oak Ridge. He was a member of Fincastle United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by parents Walter and Juanita Bailey and one
granddaughter.
He is survived by wife Evelyn of Speedwell; daughter Vera Silcox of
LaFollette; son Ken Bailey of LaFollette and sister Katherine of
Andersonville; one grandson, one granddaughter and three
great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Cross Funeral Home with Dr. David
Lord and Rev. Jim Millens officiating. Interment was in the Fincastle
Cemetery.
Carl E. Bailey, 79, of LaFollette, died on Monday, Feb. 4 at his home. He
was a member of the Baptist Faith and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by father Jim Bailey and four sisters and one
brother.
He is survived by wife Florine Sweeney Bailey; mother Mossie Bailey; brother
J.B. Bailey; sisters Carrie Mae Farmer and Margie Brantley, all of
LaFollette.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Cross Funeral Home with Rev.
Charles Lovely officiating. Interment was in the Campbell County Memorial
Gardens.
Tom Branam, 93, of Jacksboro, died Saturday, Feb. 9 at St. Mary's Medical
Center of Campbell County. He was a past Board Member of Claiborne County
Farmers CO-OP and was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by wife Euretha Bowers Branam; one infant son;
parents George and Nancy Wilson Branam; brothers Andrew Branam and Everett
Rutherford; sisters Martha Rutherford Lane, Mini Perry, Pernia Rutherford
and Evelyn Sebby.
He is survived by brother Ernest Rutherford; sister Elizabeth Wilburn, all
of LaFollette.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 11 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral
Home with Rev. Ronnie Arnold officiating. Interment was in the Bakers Forge
Cemetery.
Alvis H. (Buck) Cantrell, 84, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, formerly of
LaFollette, died on Thursday, Feb. 7. He was a member of Masonic Lodges in
Arkansas and Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Elizabeth Cantrell; father William
H. Cantrell; mother Bessie Stout and sister Marie Douglas.
He is survived by son A.C. Cantrell of Santa Maria of California; sister
Jennie King of LaFollette and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Walters Chapel with Rev. Danny King
officiating. Interment was in the Bakers Forge Cemetery.
Cheryl Lynne Kidwell Douglas, 28, of LaFollette, died on Friday, Feb. 8 at
Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a member of Ford
Town Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by grandfathers Edgar Cooper and Oscar Kidwell and
grandmother Pearl Kidwell.
She is survived by husband Jimmy Douglas of LaFollette; parents Harold and
Joyce Kidwell of LaFollette; grandmother Mildred Cooper of LaFollette.
Funeral services was Monday, Feb. 11 at Ford Town Baptist Church with Rev.
David Hicks officiating. Interment was in the Peabody Cemetery.
Martin Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Rosa Mae Phillips Finley, 89, died on Feb. 6. She was a member of Beech
Grove Baptist Chuch.
She was preceded in death by husband Lester Finley and her parents Aaron and
Rachel Phillips; brothers Alonzo Phillips, Charlie Phillips and Arlie
Phillips; sisters Sylvania Posey and Ocie McKamey; son Tommy Finley;
daughter Pearl Choate and three grandson and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by son Austin Finley of LaFollette; daughter Grace Crabtree
of Clinton; daughter Pauline Gibson of Jacksboro, Katie Watts of LaFollette
and 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. in the Chapel with Rev. Larry Watts
officiating. Interment was in the Campbell Memorial Gardens.
Martin Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Chester Hensley, 93, of LaFollette, died on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the St.
Mary's of Campbell County. He was of the Baptist Faith and a retired coal
miner.
He was preceded in death by parents Washington and Ollie Jones Hensley;
brothers Charlie, Frank, Speed, Denver, Lee, Roy, and King Hensley; sisters
Mellie Martin, Zella Walker, Florence Hamblin, Ruby and Leona Hensley and
Lou Bailis.
He is survived by wife Leafy Ann Hensley; son William Raymond Hensley of
Crawfordsville, Indian; daughter Brenda McKeowen of Federal Way, Wash; nine
grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and one
grandson.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 14 in Martin Wilson Chapel with Rev.
Jack Goins and Rev. Ernest Hensley officiating. Interment was in the Charlie
Hensley Family Cemetery.
Pauline Mary Mahan, 80, of Jellico, died on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Jellico
Community Hospital.
She is survived by sister Ellie Sharp.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.
Marvin Douglas officiating. Interment was in the Mahan Cemetery.
Jolene Oaks, 70, of Jellico, died on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the Jellico
Community Hospital. She was a member of Tannery Hollow Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by parents Arkley and Easter Gladys Richmond Lay;
husband Robert E. Oaks Jr.
She is survived by three sons Robbin Oaks of Georgia, Roddy Oaks and Vincent
Oaks, both of Dayton, Ohio; brothers Rev. Don Lay of Jellico and Robert E.
Lay of Virginia Beach, Virginia; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 8 at the Cox and Son Chapel with Rev.
Lester Cox officiating. Interment was in the Douglas Cemetery.
Mary Edna Peevely, 72, of Speedwell, died on Feb. 11 at Claiborne County
Hospital. She was retired from the Imperial Reading Corporation and a member
of the International Ladies Garment Union and was a member of the Carr's
Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by parents William and Margaret Taylor Peevely and
brother John William Peevely.
She is survived by sons Gary Peevely of Franklin, Tenn., James M. Peevely of
Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter Rebecca Peevely of Speedwell; brother Robert E.
Peevely of Speedwell; sister Hazel Peevely Swisher of Speedwell, Helen
Peevely Evans of Alexandria, Virginia, Pauline Peevely Ausmus of Speedwell
and Kathy Peevely Cheek of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 14 at Reece Valley Chapel with Rev.
Kenneth Luckadoo officiating. Interment was in the Peevely Family Cemetery.
Larry Edward Perkins, 53, of Elk Valley, died on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Jellico
Community Hospital. He was a member of Stanfield United Baptist Church .
He was preceded in death by father Charles Edward Perkins.
He is survived by mother Janice June Perkins of Elk Valley; daughter Dove
Latonia Marlow of Jellico; brothers Herbert, Warren, Roeland, Lester, all of
Elk Valley; sisters Mae Muse of Jacksboro, Vickie Woodward of Elk Valley;
step-mother Imogene Perkins; half brothers David, Dilson, Danny, Billy,
Jimmy and Jackie; half sister Glenna, Kay, Barbara, and Hattie.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 8 at Stanfield United Baptist Church in
Elk Valley. Interment was in the Warren Memorial Gardens.
Harp Funeral Home of Jellico is in charge of arrangements.
Roger Clayton Stevens, 51, of Lake City, died on Monday, Feb. 4 at the
Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
He was preceded in death by sister Geneva May.
He is survived by parents Clayton and Alsie Webber Stevens of Lake City;
sisters Mildred Parrott of Lake City, Norma Hurley of Lake City, Mary Ruth
Jobe of Lake City and Sherry Thurman of Kentucky.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 7 in the Chapel of Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home in Lake City.
Norman Blaine Swisher, 88, of Speedwell, died on Feb. 10. He was a member of
the United Methodist Church, and a retired master carpenter, a historic
restoration specialist, a former coastguardsman and a veteran of WWII
serving in the merchant marines.
He was preceded in death by parents John D. and Barbara Spade Swisher;
brother Frank, Cameron, William, Derwood, and Edgar and on grandson.
He is survived by wife Hazel Peevely Swisher; sons Charles Swisher of
Ruckersville, Virginia, William Swisher of Lenoir City, John Swisher of
Speedwell, Mark Swisher of Speedwell and Michael Swisher of Speedwell;
daughters Patricia Williams of Mt. Juliet, Margi Jones of Shelby County,
Ky., Barbara Mullen of Staunton, Virginia and Curcha Duggan of Sweetwater;
sisters Zella Neal and Mary Cross of Hagerstown, Md., and 17 grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 13 at Reece Valley Chapel with Rev.
Sam Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Swisher Family Cemetery.
John Henry Wyrick, 71, of LaFollette, died on Thursday, Feb. 7 in Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by parents James and Ruth Wyrick; brother James
Wyrick Jr.
He is survived by his son Johnny Wyrick of Dandridge; daughter Sandra
Lindsey of Newport; sister Elizabeth Lumpkins of LaFollette and three
grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 8 at Manes Funeral Home West Chapel with
Rev. James McFalls officiating. Interment was in the Campbell County
Memorial Gardens.
