ASHER, GARRETT, SR. - age 82, of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the
Methodist Medical Center. He was born November 16, 1919 in Pineville, KY, the
son of Carlo Britton Asher and Mary Slusher Asher. He graduated high school
in Pineville and completed courses in accounting, real estate management, and
business administration from the University of Kentucky. Mr. Asher was in
U.S. Army from 1944-1945 and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was also a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars & American Legion. He was involved in
putting together the original Downtown Shopping Center in Oak Ridge,
Tennessee, Parkersburg, West Virginia and Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Asher was
also past president and state director of the Oak Ridge Junior Chamber of
Commerce; helped start the Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce; past board member
of first City Council of Oak Ridge; past president of Oak Ridge Industrial
Development Board; past Vice President of the Tennessee Mortgage Bankers
Association; founding member and past President of Anderson County (Oak
Ridge) Board of REALTORS; Board member of Roane County Tax Equalization
Board; past board member of the Roane-Anderson Counties Economic Council;
past board member and Executive Committee Member of the Bank of Oak Ridge. He
was a long time member of Oak Ridge Country Club; active member of Oak Ridge
Rotary Club, Paul Harris Fellow, past president of Oak Ridge Jaycees; Board
of Directors of the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival; served as Commodore of
Fort Loudon Yacht Club. Mr. Asher was employed in 1941-1944-TVA Cost
Accounting Department. 1945-1954-Assistant Director of the Real Estate
Division for Roane-Anderson County, later called MSI. 1955-founded Ridge
Realty Company. President of Cumberland Development Co., Vice President of
the Chamberlain Co. Started Cumberland Homes which built houses in Oak Hills
and Wiltshire Estates in the West and Lake Hills in the East areas of Oak
Ridge. Much of the land that Mr. Asher acquired included the extension of
West Outer Drive west of Louisiana Avenue and its side streets, which was the
development of Laurel Heights. He is survived by: Sons, Garrett Bruce Asher,
Jr. and wife Pamela,Ronald Keith Asher; Daughter, Tara Asher Crowe and
husband Jerry, all of Oak Ridge; Grandchildren and great grandchildren,
Ashley Vann and her children Britney, Austin, Zachary and Natalie of Clinton.
Blakely Bills and husband Brian and their children Bailey and Benjamin of
Knoxville. Nicole Gore and her husband Randall and their children Ashtyn,
Colby and Kennedy of Knoxville. Angie Hensberry and husband Joseph of
Williamston, SC. Ryan Asher of Oak Ridge. Jamie Crowe of Marietta, GA and
Ashley Crowe of Oak Ridge. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31,
2002 at 8:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Garvin Walls officiating.
Graveside services are Saturday at 10:00 am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will Brian Bills, Randall Gore, Ryan Asher, Joseph Hensberry and
Austin Vann. Honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Vann and Ashtyn Gore. The
family asks that memorial contributions be made to Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church,
c/o Printing Ministry, P.O. Box 341, Oliver Springs, TN 37840; Grace Lutheran
Church, 131 W. Gettysburg Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830; First United Methodist
Church, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive
friends on Friday, May 31, 2002 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary.
EARL, BRAD (ROSS) - age 34, of Clinton, passed away Monday, May 27, 2002, at
the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Mr. Earl is survived by his
parents, Jerry and Betty Earl of Clinton; one brother, Jerry E. Earl II of
Gibsonville, N.C., and also a sister, Nora Hagaman of Independence, Ky.;
maternal grandmother, June Floyd of Tullahoma, Tenn., and his paternal
grandmother, Nell Bost of Clinton. The family will receive friends Thursday,
May 30, 2002, between the hours of 6 - 8 p.m. with services immediately
following at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Woodhaven Funeral Home with Rev. Nathan
Malone and Rev. Don Ferguson officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be
Richard Bergin, Erick Fought, and Howard Martin. In compliance with the
families wishes, Mr. Earl will be cremated following services. In lieu of
flowers, the family request, memorials be made to the Middlebrook Pike United
Methodist Church Building Fund, 7234 Middlebrook Pike, Knoxville, TN 37909.

FOX, THOMAS EDWARD, JR. - 57, Oak Ridge, died at the Methodist Medical Center
on Sunday, May 26, 2002. Born in Byington, Tennessee on May 23, 1945 to
parents Thomas Earl and Mayme Crawford Fox. Retired from Martin Marietta
Energy Systems, K-25, on July 27, 1995 as a steam plant operator. A Veteran
of the U.S. Army. Survivors include: wife, Hazel Watson Fox, Oak Ridge; sons,
John Edward Fox, Knoxville, Edward Joe Fox and wife, Sabine, stationed with
the US Army in Germany; daughters, Carol Ruth Ann Davis and husband, Ronnie ,
Luttrell, TN, Addie Irene Fox, Knoxville; brothers, Joe Fox and wife, Lynn,
Coalfield, Claude Michael Fox and wife, Patty, Hardin Valley, Lonnie M. Fox
and wife, Cynthia, Knoxville; half-brother, Earl Cobbs and wife, Mary Jo,
Knoxville; sisters, Helen Carol Farrell and husband, Joe, Hardin Valley,
Sally Gardner and husband, Chuck, Oak Ridge, Margaret Ann Green, Knoxville;
half-sisters, Clara Ruth, Mississippi, Jennifer Philips and husband, Ricky,
Oak Ridge, Sharon Robins and husband, Ronnie, Knoxville; 6 grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Crippled
Children's Hospital, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502. Memorial
service will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary on Thursday, May
30, 2002 at noon with Rev. John Wells officiating.
VANN, ETHEL - age 88, passed away Sunday May 26, 2002 at St. John-Oakland
Hospital in Madison Heights, Mich. Mrs. Vann was a 23 year resident of
LaFollette and a member of the Eastern Star, and a member of the LaFollette
Baptist Church. Dear mother of Donna (Guilford) Houk of Sterling Heights,
Mich., Betty Whitted of Rockford, Ohio, Fred (Gloria) Vann of Rockford, Ohio
and the late John Vann, Jr. (1987) and Franklin Vann (2001); 17
grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; sister of
Jess Davis of Feather Falls, Calif., Hazel White of Monroeville, Ohio, Mary
Hayness of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Nona Pearl Proctor of LaFollette, Tenn., Laverne
Atchley of Crossville, Tenn., Bobby Davis of El Paso, TX, Kathleen Burge of
Crossville, Tenn. and the late Clifford Davis, Bill Davis, Charles Davis and
John L. Davis. Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of
Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Danny King officiating. Interment will
be 11 a.m. Friday in Sunrise Cemetery. The family will receive friends from
6-8 p.m. Thursday night before funeral services. Martin Wilson Funeral Home
of LaFollette is in charge of the arrangements.
