LAKLEE OWENS, 11, of Clinton, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the
University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville of injuries sustained in
an automobile accident.
Laklee had just completed fifth grade at Dutch Valley Elementary School,
where she sung with Valley Voices. Her family said she loved all sports and
was proud to have made the Clinton Middle School soccer team. The team went
undefeated this season and had recently won a championship.
She was a member of Kentucky Hill Baptist Church in Jellico and had been very
active there since her father became pastor of the church six months ago.
Laklee loved singing, her family said, and she had sung in various churches
with her family. She was loved by everyone she came in contact with, they
said.
She was born May 9, 1991, in Anderson County, and was the daughter of the
Rev. Johnny and Lydia Taylor Owens of Clinton.
In addition to her parents, Laklee is survived by two sisters, Brittany Owens
of Clinton and Angel Hayes and her husband, Ricky, of Lake City; her
grandparents, Rosie Taylor, and John and Jenny Owens, all of Clinton; and her
great-grandparents, the Rev. Damon Owens and Mary Styles, both of Oak Ridge,
and Nora and Raymond Terry of Elk Valley.
She is also survived by her niece and nephew, Brooke and Caleb of Lake City;
her aunts and uncles, Tabitha and Darrell Ray, Alicia and Jeff Pack and
Joshua and Lisa Taylor, all of Clinton, and Dale and Karen Taylor of
Coalfield; and by her cousins, Amber Hooks, Jonah Taylor, Frank Taylor,
Sydney Taylor, Jake Taylor, Bethany Ray, Makayla Ray, Kaylee Pack and Heather
Pack.
Laklee was preceded in death by her grandfather, Phillip Taylor, who died in
1995.
The family wishes to thank the staff in the intensive care unit of UT Medical
Center and family and friends who stood by them through this difficult time,
and most of all for their prayers and support.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Cherry Bottom
Baptist Church in Lake City with the Rev. Rick Howard, the Rev. Verlin
Phillips and the Rev. Bo Perkins officiating.
Burial will follow at Walker-Long Cemetery in Dutch Valley.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Laklee
Owens Memorial Fund, c/o SunTrust Bank, P.O. Box 68, Lake City, TN 37769, or
to any SunTrust Bank location.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, June 21, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
EDYTH MAE WILLIAMS, 70, of Clinton, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at her
home.
She was the daughter of Viola and Dewey Cheeks, who are deceased.
Mrs. Williams was a member of South Clinton Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard Williams; her daughter, Susan
Reeverts and her husband, Paul, of Norris; her granddaughters, Lexie Reeverts
of Oak Ridge and Lindy Lindsey and her husband, Tim, of Norris; her sisters,
Joyce Nauman of Karns and Dora Carroll of Wartburg; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her
brother, Floyd Cheeks.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at
Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton with the Rev. Clark Brown officiating.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to South
Clinton Baptist Church, 1000 Clinch Ave., Clinton, TN 37716.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, June 21, at
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton.
JOHN P. "Jimmer" ALLEN, 66, of Swing Loop Road, Rockwood, died Wednesday,
June 19, 2002, at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mr. Allen had worked for 23 years as a machinist at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant,
when it was operated by Lockheed Martin Energy Systems.
He was the son of George and Nellie Allen, who are deceased.
Mr. Allen was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Evon Allen; three sons, John W. Allen of Ozone,
Alonza Allen and his wife, Jackie, of Crossville, and Gary Lynn Allen of
Rockwood; his grandchildren, Adam Allen and McKinzie Allen; and two sisters,
Mary Cordell of Homestead, Fla., and Barbara Kindrick of Rockwood.
A graveside service was to be conducted at 1:30 today, June 21, at Ozone
Cemetery with the Rev. Ben Ward officiating.
Evans Mortuary in Rockwood is handling the arrangements.
