H. FRANK SOARD, 81, of Friendsville and formerly of Oak Ridge, died Sunday,
July 14, 2002, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville.
Born in Morristown, he was a graduate of Morristown High School and attended
the University of Tennessee, where he played football. He also attended Brown
University and the University of Iowa.
In 1984, Mr. Soard was inducted into the Tennessee Swimming Hall of Fame for
his service to Southeastern swimming and his invention of the first automatic
judging-timing machine.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II as a fighter pilot
flying an F-4.
Mr. Soard worked for 38 years as a chemical specialist for Oak Ridge National
Laboratory until his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of the Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville, the American
Legion Post 2000 of Nashville and the American Association of Retired
Persons.
Mr. Soard is survived by his wife, Sarah M. Hiittner Stow-Soard; two
daughters, Judy Roy and her husband, Eddy, of Knoxville, and Karen Rule and
her husband, David of Maryville; three stepsons, David Stow and his wife,
Lynn, of Medford, N.J., Donald Stow and his wife, Bonnie, and Dean Stow, all
of Atco, N.J.
He is also survived by four sisters, Dorothy Soard, Alma Jean Soard, Margaret
Carr and Phyllis Smith, all of Oak Ridge; a brother, Harold Soard of Lenoir
City; five grandchildren, Joshua Rule, Daniel Rule, Judy Rule, Danelle Stow
and Dawn Stow; and by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Soard was preceded in death by his first wife, Janis Ziesing Soard, and
his sister, Velma Johnson.
The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Friday, July 19, in the chapel of
McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville.
Friends may gather at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at the funeral home, 220
W. Broadway, to travel to Anderson Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs
Highway, Clinton, for a 10 a.m. graveside service.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
Friendsville Fire Department, P.O. Box 7, Friendsville, TN 37737.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
MARGARET LOUISE HILL, 98, of Clinton, died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Windwood
Health & Rehabilitation Center in Clinton.
Born June 25, 1904, in Oliver Springs, she was the daughter of James and Mary
Russell McCoy.
Mrs. Hill had worked at Magnet Mills in Clinton before its closing, and she
had retired from Palomar General Hospital in Escondito, Calif., where she
worked as a licensed practical nurse.
She was the widow of Floyd T. Hill.
She was a 60-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and had served as past
worthy matron, and she was a 40-year member of the Amaranth and had served as
past royal matron. In both orders, she held many offices, her family said.
She was also a member of the Rebekahs.
Mrs. Hill was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Clinton.
She had recently celebrated her 98th birthday with her family at her home.
She is survived by her son, Charles W. Hill and his wife, Joyce J. Hill, of
Clinton; her granddaughters, Candy Pollard, Michelle George and Shannon
Smith; and her great-granddaughters, Courtney, Jessie, Brookie, Brittany and
Katie.
In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death
by 11 brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 8 tonight, July 16, at St. Mark's United
Methodist Church in Clinton. The Rev. Lee Cate and the Rev. John Clark will
officiate.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to St.
Mark's United Methodist Church, 248 N. Main St., Clinton, TN 37716.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the church.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is handling the arrangements.
MAMIE DOPE DELAP, 88, of Oliver Springs, died at her home on Monday, July 15,
2002.
Born May 31, 1914, in Limestone County, Ala., she was the daughter of Milton
and Mary Dedman Pope.
Mrs. Delap was a homemaker. She moved to the area from Limestone County 60
years ago. Her family said she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and
quilting. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of
Eagles.
She is survived by her sons, Carlos Delap of Oliver Springs and Charles Delap
and his wife, Stella, of Stow, Ohio; her daughter, Helen Fuller and her
husband, Len, of Oak Ridge; and four grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five
step-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Athens, Ala.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Clinch
River Home Health Inc., P.O. Box 56, Clinton, TN 37716.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at
Weatherford Mortuary.
CONSTANT CHARLES "C.C." WILSON, 94, of Oak Ridge, died Monday, July 15, 2002,
at NHC HealthCare of Oak Ridge.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19, at Oliver
Springs Cemetery.
Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
