Gussie Broyles
Grace Meeker Volk, 90, of Oak Ridge,

GUSSIE BROYLES of Brookhaven nursing home in Kingsport died Monday morning,
Sept. 16, 2002, at Brookhaven, where she had lived for several years.
Born in Sullivan County, she had lived her entire life there.
Mrs. Broyles was a charter member of Mafair United Methodist Church, a member
of the United Methodist Women and a member of Women of the Moose Chapter No.
1106 in Kingsport.
She was the widow of James M. Broyles, who died in 1986.
Mrs. Broyles is survived by three daughters, Joann Vestal and her husband,
E.C. Vestal Jr., of Oak Ridge, Glenna Price and her husband, Robert B. Price,
and Kathie Mosier and special friend, Joe Kabool, all of Kingsport.
Mrs. Broyles is also survived by five grandchildren, James Price and his
wife, Patricia, of Naples, Fla., Robert Price Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of
Columbus, Ohio, Lisa Quiggle and her husband, Richard, of Kingsport, Vickie
Renninger and her husband, Joe, of Maryville, and Eugene Vestal of Knoxville;
and by six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Nelle Godsey and Lucille McKamey,
both of Piney Flats, and Neva Jones of Kingsport; and two nieces, Charlotte
Young of Johnson City and Emma Ruth Riggs of Jacksonville, Fla.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Broyles was preceded in death by a sister,
Gertye Riggs.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Mafair United
Methodist Church in Kingsport with the Rev. Don Nation and the Rev. John
Bardsley officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the
downtown chapel of Hamlett Dobson Funeral Homes in Kingsport.

GRACE MEEKER VOLK, 90, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at Windwood
Health & Rehabilitation Center in Clinton.
She was born Nov. 12, 1911, in Fly, Ohio, the daughter of George Wesley
Meeker and Bessie Frobish Meeker.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Blanchester, Ohio, and
of First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge.
Mrs. Volk was retired as a registered nurse. She had worked at Clinton
Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Ohio.
Her family said she did beautiful crocheting and needlework.
Mrs. Volk is survived by two sons, Lou Volk, a retired teacher from Jefferson
Middle School, and his wife, Peggy, of Oak Ridge, and Joe Volk and his wife,
Beth, of Arlington, Va.; and five grandchildren, Josh, Kirsten, Johanna,
Aaron and Max Volk.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Freida
Meeker Hayes, and two brothers, Waldo Meeker and Willard Meeker.
The funeral was held Monday, Sept. 16, in the chapel of St. Stephen's
Episcopal Church.
A private burial service will be held in Ohio.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to
Keystone Adult Day Program, P.O. Box 4664, Oak Ridge, TN 37831
