Paul E. Stein, 77, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Hillcrest
Medical Nursing Institute Inc., Hillcrest North in Knoxville.
Born May 14, 1926, in Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of William and Marie
Keen Stein.
Mr. Stein was a retired chemical engineer from Martin Marietta Energy
Systems, where he worked for 35 years. He received a master's degree in chemical
engineering from the University of Tennessee and a bachelor's degree from the
University of Denver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of United
Church, Chapel on the Hill. According to his family, Mr. Stein enjoyed bridge,
boating and fishing, and he was a member of the computer club and the power
squadron.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Viola L.
Stein.
Mr. Stein is survived by two daughters, Valerie S. Richards and husband,
Phil, and Anne Stein and fiancé, Jeff MacDonald; his son, Paul Stein Jr.; his
grandson, Charles Richards; and by two sisters, Mary Meehin and Barbara Kulics,
both of Florida.
The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at United Church,
Chapel on the Hill with the Rev. Boyd Carter officiating.
Burial will be private.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the
American Heart Association, 4708 Papermill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37909, the
Parkinson United Foundation, 833 W. Washington Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607-2326, or a
charity of the donor's choice.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Martin
Oak Ridge Funeral Home.

James A. Loy, 50, of Clinton, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at his home.
He was the son of Helen Loy of Clinton and Roy Loy, who is now deceased.
Mr. Loy was a member of South Clinton Baptist Church and a veteran of the
U.S. Navy.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Loy is survived by his son, Alex Loy of
Clinton; his sister, Alice Fay Loy of Clinton; two brothers, David Loy and William
Loy and wife, Rochelle, all of Clinton; and by several other relatives.
A private graveside service will be conducted at a later date at Farmers
Grove Cemetery.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

John Michael Ball, 52, of Knoxville, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at St.
Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1951, in Atlanta, Ga., he grew up in Paducah, Ky. Mr. Ball
graduated from Oak Ridge High School and from the University of Tennessee with a
bachelor's degree in business administration. He was employed by Lockheed
Martin at the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant as a weapons material controller. For the past
several years he was employed by the Kroger Corp. and the Sertoma Center.
According to his family, Mr. Ball spent a lifetime dedicated to community
service, including work as a nursing home activity volunteer, dormitory counselor
at Tennessee School for the Deaf, staff member at group homes for Lakeshore
Mental Health Institute and staff counselor in adult group homes for the
Sertoma Center. Mr. Ball was also fluent in American sign language, serving as an
interpreter for friends in the deaf community and in the workplace.
He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Ball, of Jekyll Island, Ga.
Mr. Ball is survived by his mother, Lou Ball; two sisters, Theresa Ball and
husband, David Parsons, of Gallatin, and Lucinda Ball; a brother, Christopher
Ball and wife, Rebecca; a nephew, Ryan Ball; and by several extended family m
embers.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at All Saints
Catholic Church in Knoxville with the Rev. Chris Michaelson officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to the St.
Vincent de Paul Society, 1217 Newcastle St., Brunswick, GA 31520, or to a
local hospice.
The family extends gratitude to the staff of the Mayo Clinic, St. Luke's
Hospital and the hospice.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Weaver
Funeral Home in Knoxville.

Annie Bell Braden, 60, of Briceville, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Born Feb. 3, 1943, in Stainesville, she was the daughter of Gracie Bunch of
Briceville and Wayne Bunch, who is now deceased.
Mrs. Braden lived in this area most of her life except for 13 years when she
lived in Atlanta. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She was a
homemaker and worked as a meat processor at a meat processing plant in Atlanta.
Her daughters, Mattie Grace and Rose Marie Braden; two brothers, William
Edward Bunch and Roy Hobert Bunch; a sister, Alice Faye Smith; and an aunt, Bessie
Phillips, who was considered special, also died earlier.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Braden is survived by her husband, Ned Dalton
Bunch; two sons, Wayne F. Braden and wife, Melissa, and Edward A. Braden and
wife, Pauline, all of Briceville; a daughter, Lisa Braden of Clinton; and by
five grandchildren, Christopher Wayne Braden, Kristie Dawn Hooks, Joshua Allen
Braden, Edward Samson Braden and Kyla Ann Duncan.
She is also survived by a brother, Charles Edmond Bunch of West Virginia;
three sisters, Nellie Phillips and Mary Elizabeth Randolph, both of Briceville,
and Ruby Jane Phillips of Oliver Springs; and by several nieces, nephews and
extended family members.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at Fellowship Baptist
Church in Morgan County with the Rev. Steve Randolph and the Rev. Donnie Tinker
officiating.
Burial will follow at Indian Bluff Cemetery in Briceville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Sharp
Funeral Home in Oliver Springs.

Sadie Hacker Russell, 74, of Toledo, Ohio, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at
Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
She was the daughter of Alex and Maude Mayton Hacker.
Mrs. Russell was a founding and charter member and mother of Wounded Hearts
Trinity Church. She was president of the Mending Hearts Women's Club from its
inception. According to her family, her life epitomized charity toward others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry
Lee Russell; a son, Randy; three sisters, Edith, Lucy and Velma; and by four
brothers, Dan, Harry, Leonard and J.W.
Mrs. Russell is survived by a brother, Alex Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; two
daughters, Sandra Pride and husband, Kenny, of Ooltewah, and Sharon Stevens
and husband, the Rev. Dan Stevens, of Toledo; six grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and by several other relatives.
Wayne Moore is considered a special friend.
The funeral was Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at Abele Funeral Home in Toledo.
Burial followed at Forest Cemetery in Toledo.
The family extends gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Oliver Springs Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.

Georgianna Gilligan Cunningham, 85, of Clarksville, died Saturday, Oct. 11,
2003, at Spring Meadows Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.
Born April 12, 1918, in Ogdensburg, N.Y., she was the daughter of Martin A.
and Martha Brandy Gilligan.
Mrs. Cunningham was a bookkeeper. She was a volunteer for the
Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank
Cunningham Jr., former Montgomery County property assessor.
Mrs. Cunningham is survived by two sons, retired Gen. Frank "Pat" Cunningham
III and wife, Annette McKnight, of Clarksville, and Martin "Mike" Cunningham
of Atlanta, Ga.; her daughter, Martha Cunningham Wallus of Oak Ridge; a sister,
Joanne Beerman of Douglaston, N.Y.; and by nine grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, in the chapel of
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksville with the Rev. Mario
Burakowski officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville. Thomas N.
Cunningham, Jack Mitchell, Wayne Pace, Josh Wallus, Chip Cunningham, Martin Cunningham,
Zachary Priest and Greg Taylor will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of contributions to
Clarksville-Montgomery Public Library, 350 Pageant Lane, Clarksville, TN 37040 or
to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at
Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home in Clarksville.

Emma Jean Russell of Oliver Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003, at the
University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver
Springs is in charge of arrangements, which were incomplete at press time.
