John Robert Ayers, age 41, of LaFollette died Dec. 26 at Baptist Hospital in
Knoxville. He was a member of the LaFollette Church of God, a graduate of
L.M.U. where he belonged to Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. He was President of Ayers
Motors in LaFollette.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Lassie Ayers and Robert
McCreary.
Survivors include his son Justin Ross Ayers, Pigeon Forge; daughters, Jessica
Ayers and Katie Ayers, Gulfport, Ms; parents, R.L. and Helen Ayers,
Jacksboro; grandmother, Mrs. Robert McCreary, LaFollette; sisters, Angela Ayers
Greeson, Cleveland and Joye Ayers Smith, Jacksboro; niece, Micheala Smith; nephew,
Noah Smith.
Funeral services were Dec. 29 at the LaFollette Church of God with Rev.
Norman Stallings and Rev. Tony McAfee officiating. Interment in Campbell Memorial
Gardens. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Juliana Beach, age 71, of Lake City died Dec. 20. She was born Nov. 7, 1932
in Anderson County, Tn. She was a member of Indian Bluff Baptist Church. She
was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved reading,
canning and working in her flowers.
Preceded in death by her father, Jim Tucker; brothers, Denver, Leon and
Marshall Tucker.
Survivors include her daughter, Julia Beach, Clinton; sons, Danny Beach,
Memphis, Chuck Beach, Andersonville, Danny Sparks, Clinton, son and
daughter-in-law, David and Joy Beach, Lake City; mother, Lola Beach, Briceville; brother and
sister-in-law, Ned and Myrtle Tucker, Oh; sister, Helen Barr, Co.; six
grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Dec. 22 at Hatmaker Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Potter
officiating. Interment in Leach Cemetery. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge
of the arrangements.
Jessie Lee Bowman, born July 7, 1914, died Dec. 22.
Preceded in death by her father and mother; sister, Myrtle Romines; brothers,
Frank and Bill Bowman; nephews, Homer Romines, Wayne Romines, Bobby Bowman
and Everett Bowman.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; one special great-nephew, Eddie
Romines; very special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Flatt; loyal friend for
many years, Karen Violetich; a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were Dec. 27 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home
with Rev. Audie Murray and Rev. Derick Hembree officiating. Interment in

Cordella Carroll Brown, age 90, of Ligas Fork, died Dec. 25 at St. Mary's
Residential Hospice in Halls. She was born July 5, 1913 in Anderson County, Tn.
She was a member of Grave Hill Baptist Church for seventy seven years.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Brown; daughters, Unavee,
Pauline and Ina Lou Brown; sister, Winfrey Lively; brothers, Jimmy Carroll and
Dewey Kennedy.
Survivors include her sons, Don H. Brown, Knoxville, Jay and wife Grace
Brown, Walland; daughters, Alavene and husband, Bob Templin, Lake City, with whom
she made her home, Angie and husband, Jim Morales, Cross Jct, Va;
grandchildren, Larry Brown, Timmy Byrge, Jimmy Byrge, Cindy Sellers, Tammy Phillips, Debby
Bergeron, Jason Byrge, Jamey Byrge, Boyce Templin, Kasey Templin, Greg
Templin, Scott Templin, Brad Templin, Amy Templin, Bethany Brown, Chris Stitt, Rick
Stitt, and Douglas Stitt; twenty nine great grandchildren; two great great
grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 28 at Grave Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Delbert
Roberts, Rev. Brian Courtney and grandson Jimmy Byrge officiating. Interment
in Grave Hill Cemetery. Hatmaker Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Joe E. Carden age 65 of Jacksboro passed away Saturday December 27, 2003 at
St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County.He was a member of Cedar Hill
Baptist Church. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed
spending time with his family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by parents: Arthur and Fannie Seibers Carden,
sister, Lucy Carden.
Joe is survived by wife, Claudia Carden, son, Clyde Brown and daughter,
Michell Marian all of Jacksboro; granddaughters, Ashley and Aleiha James. brothers,
James Asbury of Dayton Ohio, and Arthur Carden, Jr. of LaFollette. sisters
and brother-in-law, Mary Dow of Knoxville and Rosalee and Don Asbury of Heskiel.
And a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2PM Wednesday December 31, 2003 in the chapel of
Martin Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Arnold and Rev. Ronnie Freeman
officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

David L. Chitwood, age 57, of Jellico died Dec. 23 at his home. He was a
member of the First Baptist Church of Jellico and was employed by the Campbell
County Board of Education.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, Daniel and Isabell Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Chitwood, Jellico; daughter, Roxanna
Chitwood, Jellico; son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Holly Chitwood,
Lexington, Ky; mother, Alice Chitwood, Jellico; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn
and Bob Herron, Norwood, Oh; aunt, Flossie Jones, Jellico; several nieces and
nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services were Dec. 26 at the First Baptist Church in Jellico with
Rev. Trent Stewart and Rev. Jerome Walden officiating. Interment was in the
Jellico Cemetery. Llewellyn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Mack McCoy Edwards, age 60, of Speedwell died Dec. 23 at Sunbridge Care and
Rehabilitation. He was of the Baptist faith.
Preceded in death by his parents, Tilmon and Elsie (Berry) Edwards; brothers,
Kenneth Lee, John Henry and Hugh Hodge Edwards.
Survivors include his brothers, James Ralph Edwards, Knoxville and Tom
Edwards, Knoxville; sister, Ada Cupp, LaFollette.
Funeral services were Dec. 26 at Cross Funeral Home with Rev. Darrell Edwards
officiating. Interment was in Clawson Cemetery. Cross Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Vernon Gambrel, age 79 of LaFollette, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2003
at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville. He was a member at the Glade Springs Baptist
Church. Vernon was a U.S. army veteran. He was a loving and caring brother and
uncle, who enjoyed his family very much. He also loved his late wife Opal,
pastor, and church and especially loved the lord.
He is preceded in death by, wife Opal Young Gambrel, parents, McKinley and
Pearl Inman Gambrel. sister Lorain Guthrie and Della Peace.
Mr. Gambrel is survived by special niece, Barbara Jean Blanton of LaFollette,
sisters, Micki Smith of Knoxville and Phenton Thomas of Kenvin, KY. Several
nieces and nephews and host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday, December 30 in the chapel of Martin Wilson
Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Watts and Rev. Don Reynolds officiating.
Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery with full military honors by the
Campbell County Honor Guard.

Charles Henry Heckler, age 57, of Jacksboro, died Dec. 22 at St. Mary's
Hospital in Knoxville.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha Goldstein Heckler; step-daughter, Martha
Gloria Seals, both of Jacksboro; brother, Dave Heckler; sister, Bonnie.
Graveside services were Dec. 26 at Turley Cemetery. Cross Funeral Home was in
charge of the arrangements.
Cindy Louise Henderson, age 43, of Jellico died Dec. 27 at U.T. Medical
Center, Knoxville.
Survivors include her husband, Rocky Henderson, Pioneer; daughter, Minnda
Cox, Fairborne, Oh; step-son, Nathan Troy Henderson, Newcomb; grandchild, Georgia
Cox, Fairborne, Oh; father, James Cheek, Hardinburg, In; brothers, James

Cheek, Tazewell, Marvin Cheek, New Tazewell; sisters, Janie Winkler, Tazewell,

Funeral services were Dec. 30 at Harp Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam

James "Jim" C. Kesterson, age 79, of 207 Pleasant Ridge Road, LaFollette died
Dec. 29 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a loving father,
grandfather, great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and
friends.
Preceded in death by his wife, Jewel Goins Kesterson; son, Jimmy Kesterson;
parents, Raymond and Ora Bailey Kesterson.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Lisa Kesterson,
Jacksboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and J.R. Marcum, Lawrenceville, Ga,
Connie and Eddie Jackson, Knoxville, Tammy and Benny Thomas, LaFollette, Donna
Kesterson and friend, Rico Caiata, LaFollette; eight grandchildren, 5
great-grandchildren; brothers, J.C. Kesterson, Jacksboro, Alvin Kesterson, Knoxville;

Funeral services are tonight (Dec.31) at 8 p.m. Martin Wilson Funeral Home
Chapel with Rev. Andrew Ayers officiating. Interment will be at 11a.m. in
Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight
(Dec.31). Martin Wilson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Naomi Ausmus King, age 88, of Harrogate died Dec. 20 at Tri State
Comprehensive Care Center in Harrogate. She was born June 9, 1915 in Speedwell, Tn, the
daughter of Milton and Magalene Pierce Ausmus. She was a devoted Christian and
member of First Baptist Church, Harrogate. She married James C. King, Feb. 6,
1936. She was a 1934 graduate of Jellico High School, and a dedicated
homemaker. She will be greatly missed by all of her family.
Preceded in death by her husband, James C. King; sons, Charles and Joseph.
Survivors include her sons, J. David King, Kettering, Oh, Hugh King, Phoenix,
Az, Rev. Arnold King, Shelbyville, Tn; step-son, Jim Mathis, Ringgold, Ga;
daughters, Bonnie King Overton, Indianapolis, In, Joann King Parker,
Middlesboro, Ky, Mary King Hatfield, Clairfield; twenty grandchildren, twenty five great
grandchildren, two great great grandsons; sisters, Lucy Ausmus Parker, Jamesto
wn and Jayne Ausmus Perrin, Rutledge.
Funeral services were Dec. 22 at Cross Funeral Home with her son Rev. Arnold
King and Rev. Jeff Greene officiating. Music was provided by her
granddaughter, Veda Overton Hicks. Interment was in the Pierce Cemetery in Speedwell. Cross
Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Arnold F. Lawson, age 84, of LaFollette, died Dec. 25 at U.T. Medical Center,
Knoxville. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army
veteran of WWII and was retired from General Motors after 32 years of employment.
Preceded in death by his parents Albert and Eva (Murphy) Lawson, brother,
Randall Lawson; sister, Ann Wilson.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Wanda Welch Lawson, LaFollette;
daughter and son-in-law, Gail (Lawson) and James Geeding, Dayton, Oh; grandson,
Shay Allan Geeding and Christian Michael Geeding; brother, Billy Lawson, Ind.;
sister, Vada Sharp, Tx.
Funeral services were Dec. 27 at Cross Chapel with Rev. Bill Raines
officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Cross Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.
Fannie F. Thompson Lewallen, age 84 of LaFollette passed away Monday,
December 22, 2003 at the St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. Mrs. Lewallen
loved sewing and gardening.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Gene Shown and Ed Lewallen; children,
Georgia Ann White and Leonard Carroll; parents, A.B. and Janie Price Thompson;
brothers, Edward and Charlie Thompson; sisters, Lilla Mae Siler and Nellie
Bunch.
Mrs. Lewallen is survived by sisters, Irene Madison Hayes and Loretta Walker
both of Jacksboro; special niece, Betty Dillon of LaFollette; several more
nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were Friday December 26 in the Chapel of Martin Wilson
Funeral Home with Rev. Pat Ayers officiating. Interment was in Campbell Memorial
Gardens.

Thelma Wilson Llewellyn, age 87, of Jellico died Dec. 25. She was the former
co-owner of Llewellyn Furniture Co. and Funeral Home.
Preceded in death by her husband, Morgan Smith Llewellyn; sisters, Christine
Adkins, Elizabeth Creekmore.
Survivors include her daughters, Joanne Watts, Phyllis and husband, Lenwood
Lay, Jellico; grandchildren, Phillip Watts, Morgan Lay, Lenwood Jr., and wife
Rebecca Lay, Elk Valley, Karen and husband, Charles Anders, Corbin, Ky;
great-grandchildren, Melissa and Justin Watts, Joshua and Noah Lay; sister, Lillian
Archer, Knoxville; brother, T.J. Wilson and wife Billie Jean, Oak Ridge, George

Samuel "Sam" Marlow, Jr., age 61, of Russell Springs, Ky died Dec. 25 at his
home. He was a member of Jabez Missionary Church of God. He was a loving
husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and
friends.
Preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Paul Marlow.

Center of Campbell County. He was of the Holiness Faith. He was retired from the
Morgan Food Company in Austin, In.
Preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Carlie Tharp McIntosh.
Survivors include his daughter, Nora Lee McIntosh, Austin, In; brothers,
Raymond McIntosh, Seymour, Paul Ray McIntosh, Blocher, In,Charles and wife, Edna

Luther Dewey (L.D.) McGhee, age 67, of Pioneer died Dec. 28 at Jellico
Community Hospital. He was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mildred McGhee; brother, Carl
McGhee.
Survivors include his sons, William McGhee, Oh, James McGhee, Ga; daughters,
Kathy Lynn McGhee, Ky, Novalee Smith, Oh; brother, Ronnie McGhee, Oh; sister,
Jean Ann Madison, Oh; companion, Diane Whaley; step-children, Thomas Whaley,

Johnnie Dan Meredith, age 54, of Elk Valley, died Dec. 25 at Jellico
Community Hospital. He was born Dec. 31, 1948 in Jellico and was a member of First
Baptist Church, Elk Valley.
Preceded in death by his father, Bart Meredith.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Diane Meredith; son and daughter-in-law,
Lindsay and Linda Marie Meredith; grandsons, Anthony Meredith and Jonathon
Meredith, all of Elk Valley; mother, Lou Ella Meredith, Jacksboro; sister and
brother-in-law, Donna Jean and Sonny Norman, Jacksboro; nephew, Anson Norman,
Jacksboro.

Pearl Kidwell Sharp, age 77, of Mt. Washington, Oh, formerly of the Stinking
Creek Community, died Dec. 21.
Preceded in death by her husband, Verlin(Jellico) Sharp; parents, T.W. and
Lula Kidwell; brother, Lonzo Kidwell, Kenneth Kidwell, Oscar "Doc" Kidwell, Otis
Kidwell and Floyd Kidwell; sister, Verna Kesterson.
Survivors include her sons, Lester Sharp and wife, Christina, Gary Sharp and
wife, Liza; daughter, Sylvia Elam and husband, Paul; grandchildren, Jamie and
Patrick Beesley, Ashley, Brandon and Lyndsay Elam, Ashley and Justin Kouns;
great-grandchildren, Kyrah and Seth Beesley; sisters and brothers, Evelyn

Willa Dean Simms, age 76, of Eagan, died Dec. 23 at Beech Tree Manor. She was
born Nov. 3, 1927 at Eagan. The daughter of the late Lloyd and Myrtle Grady
Simms.
Survivors include her aunts, Lettie King, Jellico, Linda Mae Reed, Selina,
Oh; sister-in-law, Patricia Simms, LaFollette; cousin, Bernice Harmon, Jellico.
Funeral services were Dec. 27 at the Cox and Son Chapel with Rev. Cecil
Johnson officiating. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Cox and Son Funeral Home was
in charge of the arrangements.
Teddy Gene Walker, age 41, of Jacksboro died Dec. 23 at the Methodist Medical
Center in Oak Ridge. He was a member of the Jacksboro Church of Christ. He
enjoyed fishing, boating and camping.
Preceded in death by his father, Leland G. Walker.
Survivors include his son, Dustin Wayne Walker; fiancée, Jessica Leonard;
ex-wife, Carla, all of LaFollette; mother, Charlotte Walker, Lake City; brothers

Pauline Witt, age 66, of LaFollette died Dec. 27 at St. Mary's Medical Center
of Campbell County. For the past several years she had been a resident of
Sunbridge Health Care of LaFollette. She was of the Wesleyan Faith.
Preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Mattie Witt; sister, Rosalie Witt,
brothers, Luther Witt and her twin brother, Paul Witt.
Graveside services were Dec. 30 at Bakers Forge Cemetery with Rev. David L.
Gresser officiating. Walters Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
