Walter Miles Hipsher, 52, of Farragut,
Ralph Winter Purnell, 69, of Las Vegas, Nev.
Diana Smith, 48, a resident of Oliver Springs,

Walter Miles Hipsher, 52, of Farragut, died suddenly Wednesday morning, Dec.
8, 2004, in Louisville, Ky. Walt was conducting emergency response training
for the city of Louisville Police and Fire Department. He was owner of T2
Services, a transportation and radiation safety consulting firm. Walt served as a
lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarine Service. He was an assistant scout
master with Troop 444, Boy Scouts of America, in Farragut. He was active for
several years with the Great Smoky Mountain Council. Walt was a member, elder
and youth leader of Farragut Presbyterian Church. He was an avid fisherman,
artist and world traveler. Walt was a graduate of Purdue University in
Lafayette, Ind., with a bachelor of science degree in biology with advanced studies in
nuclear propulsion in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife of 28 years,
Sandra Humphreys Hipsher, who is widely known as "The Cake Lady" in Farragut;
his daughter, Heather Hipsher of Columbus, Ohio; his son, John Hipsher of the
home; his parents, Aubrey and Catherine Hipsher of Dunedin, Fla.; his brother,
Michael Hipsher and his wife, Donna, and their children, Michael and Donna,
all of Indianapolis Ind.; and his brother, Kenneth Hipsher and his wife,
Jeannie, and their children, Bradley and Patricia, all of Gilbert, Ariz. He is also
survived by his father- and mother-in-law, John and Arlene Humphreys of
Wolcott, Ind.; his brother-in-law, Andrew Humphreys and his wife, Jacqui, and their
son, Josh, also of Wolcott; his sister-in-law, Susan Humphreys Stevenson and
her husband, Mark, and their children, Zachary, Jacob and Joseph, all of
Franklin, Ind.; and by his friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Farragut Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Ned Beckes
officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. The family
requests that any memorials be in the form of donations to Boy Scout Troop 444,
in care of Farragut Presbyterian Church, the Senior High and Middle School
Youth Groups of Farragut Presbyterian Church, 209 Jamestowne Blvd., Farragut TN
37922, or to the American Heart Association, 4708 Papermill Drive, Knoxville

Ralph Winter Purnell, 69, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at
his home. Born May 8, 1935, in Lebanon, Tenn., he was the son of Sam Martin
Purnell and Ruby Edith Moss Purnell. He was raised in Oak Ridge. Mr. Purnell was
a prominent person in his community, known and respected by many. He served
our country for 25 years in the U.S. Army. He was a giving and gentle,
intelligent man who was loved dearly by those closest to him and respected and admired
by all others. He was a wonderful family oriented man and a loving father to
his only child, Michelle Ann Purnell Conrad. He was a gift from God for his
grandchildren, Anthony Scott, Turtz and Chase John Conrad; a very wonderful
brother to his sister, Patricia Denton; his brother, Johnny Purnell, and his
sister, Sara Civitian. He was also a very loving brother-in-law to his
sister-in-law, Connie Purnell and a very special father-in-law to his son-in-law, Eric
John Conrad. A funeral will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in the
chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with Connie Purnell officiating. A graveside
service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family
will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary. An on-line

Diana Smith, 48, a resident of Oliver Springs, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004,
at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs
is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete at presstime.
