GALLOWAY, MR. JOHN W., SR. - age 77 of Sunbright, Tn

JETT, JENNIE E. - age 91, of Clinton,
SNAPP. BARBARA - age 73 of Andersonville,
WHATLEY, WALTER GAY - 88, of Oak Ridge,
GALLOWAY, MR. JOHN W., SR. - age 77 of Sunbright, Tn (Burrville community)
died March 31, 2005. He was born November 5, 1927, in Burrville, Morgan County,
Tn. John was happiest when serving the needs of others. He spent 55 years
serving the community in working to provide quality education and medical care and
other needs. For the past 25 years, he has been administrator of the Morgan
County Medical Center in Wartburg, Tn. He worked with many organizations
dedicated to improve health care in rural communities. He was a long-time member of
the Tennessee Primary Care Association (TPCA) and served as chairman of the
board of directors in 1996-97 and 2000-2001. He was a member of the East
Tennessee Community Services Agency Board,Tennessee Gas & Oil Board, the East
Tennessee Regional Health Board and the Community Health Network of TPCA and was
currently serving as its board president. Prior to entering the health care
industry, John was an educator for more than 30 years. He began his career in
education as a teacher and principal of the Burrville School in 1950. He became
principal of Sunbright School in 1960 and served as Superintendent of Schools for
Morgan County from 1972 to 1980. John felt one of his greatest career
accomplishments was working with the county judge to set up a state retirement system
for all county employees, which was completed in the early 1970s. He served in
World War II with the 25th Mechanized Calvary Regiment I Osaka, Japan. He
held a bachelor's degree from Lincoln Memorial University and a master's degree
in business administration from the University of Tennessee. He was a Justice
of the Peace in Morgan County for 12 years beginning in 1960 and continued to
serve as a notary public for many years. John was a member of New Faith Lodge
768 F & AM in Sunbright and also is a 32 degree Mason. He was of the Methodist
faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, George F. and Josie Galloway
and brother, Samuel J. Galloway. He is survived by his wife, Avilee Garrett
Galloway; daughter, Karla Galloway Harvill and husband, Doug of Atlanta, Ga.;
sons: John W. Galloway, Jr., and wife, Pam and their daughters, Laura and Amanda
of Jamestown, Tn. and Alan Galloway and wife, Mary and their sons, Richard and
Kyle, of Cookeville, Tn. He is also survived by his brothers: Victor R.
Galloway of Sparta and George D. Galloway of Sunbrigh; sister, Mary Haagen of Grand
Rapids, Mich., and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends
Saturday, April 2, 2005 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg.
Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Kirby and Rev. Wayne
Cromwell officiating. A graveside service will be held Sunday, April 3rd at
11:00 a.m. in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Burville.
HICKS, MARY GOLDEN - age 84, of Clinton, passed away Friday, April 1, 2005 at
Methodist Medical Center. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist
Church. She retired from the city of Clinton as the Deputy City Recorder. Prior to
retirement she worked at Lewallen Millers and Magnet Mills. Mary loved her
volunteer work at Methodist Medical Center. She is preceded in death by husband,
Billy Duncan; parents, William Charles and Relda Wilson Golden. Survivors:
son, Bill T. Hicks & wife Sandra of Clinton; grandchildren, Billy T. "Chip" &
wife Susan of Knoxville, LeeAnn Hicks Sherrill & husband Joseph of Crossville;
great grandchildren, Landon & Zachary Sherrill of Crossville, Adam & Chad
Kennedy of Knoxville; great great grandchildren, Chad Garet & Hannah; special
niece, Ann Patton & husband Harry of Clinton; uncle, Leon Golden & wife Delores of
Clinton; many beloved cousins, great nieces and great nephews. The family will
receive friends 12:30-2:00 PM, Monday, April 4, 2005 at St. Marks United
Methodist Church with funeral services following with Rev. Wayne Hedrick
officiating. Her burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family
has requested memorials be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 252 North
Main Street, Clinton, TN, 37716. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in
charge of all arrangements.
JETT, JENNIE E. - age 91, of Clinton, passed away on Thursday March 31, 2005
at Methodist Medical Center. The family will receive friends Saturday, April
2, 2005 from 6-8 p.m. at the Oliver Springs Mortuary. Funeral service will be
Sunday April 3, 2005 at the Batley Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Luke
Kidwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Batley Baptist church Cemetery.
Oliver Springs Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
SNAPP. BARBARA - age 73 of Andersonville, went to be with the Lord 6:05 am
Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
and was a retired employee of Bell South. Preceded in death by: parents,
Charles and Elsie Whaley; brothers, Charles, Gene and Sy Whaley; and sisters,
Loretta Sellars and Dot Morris. Survived by: loving husband, Clarence Snapp; son
and fiancé, Richard Snapp and Juanita Cox; son, Keith Snapp; daughter, Melody
Archer; grandsons and wife, Brian and Carrie Archer, Travis and Corey Snapp;
brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Mary Cutshaw; several friends and other
relatives. Funeral service will be Saturday, 8 pm in the Chapel of Mynatt Funeral
Home with Reverend Tom Aiken and Reverend Joe Bridges officiating. Family and
friends will meet Sunday at 1:45 pm at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery for
2 pm graveside service. Pallbearers will be: Tim Snoderly, Jeff Snoderly, Jeff
Fraker, Curtis Wallace, Brad Aiken, and Douglas McClure. The family will
receive friends Saturday from 6-8 pm at Mynatt Funeral Home.
WHATLEY, WALTER GAY - 88, of Oak Ridge, died Friday, April 1, 2005 at
Methodist Medical Center. Born January 4, 1917 in Alabama, he was the son of Solomon
Huel Whatley and Pearl Thomas Whatley. Retired from Union Carbide Corp/X-10
where he was a sheet metal worker. He was a member of Solway Baptist Church, a
32 degree mason with Faith Masonic Lodge #756 and the Coon Hunters Club. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Maud Etta
Whatley and son, Billy G. Whatley. He is survived by wife of 16 years, Stella Ann
Cartwright Whatley; step-son, Wayne C. Lindsay of Sarasota, FL; step-daughter,
Kathy Elizabeth Hickman and husband James of Eugene, WV; sister, Mary Sue Jones
of Sequim, WA; 3 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 3 step great
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services are Sunday, April 3,
2005 at 2:00 pm at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Ray Buchanan officiating.
Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens. The family asks that any memorials
be in the form of contributions to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1900
Richmond Rd., Lexington, KY 40502 or the American Lung Association, One Vantage
Way, Suite C-250, Nashville, TN 37228. The family will receive friends on
Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm with a Masonic Service at 8:00 pm at Weatherford
