KENNEDY, CHARLES O. - age 69
BELL, MRS. HELEN RHODES - of LaFollette, TN. died at 1:09 a.m. Friday, April
22, 2005 at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee. She was a member of First
Baptist Church of Lafollette, TN. She graduated from Fort Sanders School of
Nursing and retired after 30 years of service as a Clinical Coordinator of
Medical/Surgical Unit at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Preceded in death by:
parents, Earl and Birdie Rhodes; sisters, Anna, Mildred, and Edna. Survivors:
husband of 61 years, William C. Bell of LaFollette; sons and daughters-in-law,
William C. Jr. and Robin Bell of Lake City, Dr. Donald M. and Beverly Bell of
Knoxville; grandchildren, Rebekah Ann Bell, Sgt. Jonathan Bell and wife Lisa;
great-grandson, William Lee Bell; sister in law and brother in law, Jeanette
and Woodrow Smith; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church, 255 West
Central Avenue, LaFollette, TN 37766. The family will receive friends 12:30 to
2:00 p.m. Sunday at Stevens Mortuary and go in procession to Sherwood Memorial
Gardens for 2:30 p.m. funeral service and entombment with Rev. Lane William

BRYAN, WILLIAM J. (BILL) - born January 29, 1922, passed away April 21, 2005.
He was preceded in death by wife, Florence (Brown) Bryan; son, Steve Bryan;
father, E.O. Bryan; mother, Ruby (Cox) Bryan; step-mother, Ella Kate Bryan;
sister, Lena Truan. He leaves behind his sons and their wives, Joseph and Kathryn
Bryan, Jay and Judy Bryan, and Tom and Donna Bryan; grandchildren, Angie
Bryan, Duane Bryan, Jill Pitkanen, Whitney Bryan Bartera, Mark and Kayla Bryan;
great-grandson, Korbin Pitkanen; brother, Robert Bryan; sister, Bonnie Johnson;
sisters-in-law, Frankie Kramer and Brenda Lee; several nieces, nephews, and
cousins. He was a Veteran of WWII and served proudly in the U.S. Navy as a Radar
Operator. He was employed by Union Carbide at the X-10 Plant for 33 years
until his retirement. He was a Volunteer Dispatcher for the Karns Volunteer Fire
Dept. for several years. He was a CB operator for years, his handle was
"Salty". He was a member of Solway United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in
the Choir. He enjoyed singing Hymns and one of his favorites was "In The
Garden". The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Saturday at Weaver's Chapel with the
service to follow at 8 pm. Reverends Henry Lenoir and Gordon Ridenour
officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 pm Sunday at Solway Church Of God
Cemetery for a 2 pm graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to Solway United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 7085, Knoxville, TN 37921 or the
Karns Volunteer Fire Dept., 4725 Guinn Rd., Knoxville, TN 37931. Arrangements

COOPER, JAMES WILLIAM "JIM" - age 79, of Clinton, Tennessee passed away
Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Fort Loudon Medical Center. He was a member of Clinch
River Baptist Church where he had been a member since 1981. He was assistance
choir director at the church. He taught Sunday school at the Lake City
Nursing Home since 1981. He also taught the men the Genesis Home in Lake City. He
was preceded in death by grandchild, Kelly Kaye Cooper; parents, James Matthew &
Mary Johnson Cooper; sister, Ada Cooper Harmon; brothers, Travis Everett &
Thomas Henderson Cooper. Survivors: wife of 56 years, Betty S. Cooper of
Clinton, Tn.; daughter, Diane Geigerman of Atlanta, Ga.; sons, Wayne R. Cooper &
wife, Patricia, of Clinton, Tn., Wendell Cooper & wife, Donna, of Powell, Tn.;
grandchildren, Ivan G. Geigerman, Lt. Casey Wayne Cooper & William Christopher
Cooper; sister, Esta Cooper Ridenour of LaFollette, Tn.; special friends, Jay
Cody of Lake City, Tn; several nieces & nephews and host of friends. The family
will receive friends on Sunday, April 24th from 6 to 8 PM at the Clinch River
Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM at the church
with the Rev. Tom Byrge, Rev. David Hanes & Rev. Larry Webster officiating.
Interment will be Monday, April 25th at 11:00 AM at the Woodhaven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clinch River Baptist Church
Choir, 407 Cane Creek Road, Lake City, 37769. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in
Clinton in charge of all arrangements.
GOINS, JOE CLYDE - age 93, of Greenville, Ohio, formerly of LaFol-lette, died
Saturday, April 16, 2005. He was born Sept. 4, 1911 to par-ents Preston &
Helen Turner Goins in Campbell Co., Tennessee. Mr. Goins taught in Campbell Co.
Schools for 18 years. A lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors: wife of 69 years: Naomi Claiborne Goins; daughter: Gail Applegate,
Brentwood, TN; 2 granddaughters; 4 great-grandchildren. Graveside service &
interment: 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, at Woodlawn Cemetery with Rev. Danny Hensley
officiating. Arrangements by Cross Funeral Home
JOHNSON, BETTY - of Oak Ridge, departed this life on April 23, 2005 at
Methodist Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced
later by Unity Mortuary.
KENNEDY, CHARLES O. - age 69 passed away April 23, 2005 at Park West Hospital
from a 2 year battle with colorectal cancer. He is preceded in death by his
parents Lee and Irene Kennedy and brother Bob. He is survived by his wife of 49
years, Dora; daughter Chris and husband Bobby Fox; son Mark; granddaughters
Holly Fox Jones and husband Eric, Saraih Fox, Kelsi and Shelby Kennedy all of
Knoxville and great granddaughter Elizabeth; brother Frank Kennedy of
Titusville, Fl. Aunt, Ruth Cruce and uncle Jasper Kennedy of Warrior, Al. Several
nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was a member of Grace Baptist
Church. He had been involved in Karns Little League since it's inception as a
coach and photographer. He was the Little League photographer for the Oak
Ridge Boy's Club for many years. He was employed by Martin Marietta Energy
Systems until his retirement March 30, 1998. The family will receive friends from 6
to 8 with funeral to follow. Rev. Mark Thomas and Mark Braddom will officiate.
Burial will be Tuesday April 26, 2005 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park at 11 AM.
Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45. In lieu of flowers the
family request donations be made to the Oak Ridge Boy's Club, 102 S. Jefferson
Circle, Oak Ridge, Tn 37830 or to the Building Fund at Grace Baptist Church,
7171 Oak Ridge Highway, Knoxville, Tn 37931. Weaver Funeral Home 588-3868
