Walter Kilbourn Duerksen, 65, of Norris, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12,
2005, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Norris Religious
Fellowship and his interests revolved around his love of the outdoors: hiking,
gardening, fishing, and music. Walter was employed with Y-12 in Oak Ridge as a
research chemist with 38 years of service. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Walter J. and Virginia Kilbourn Duerksen. Survivors include his wife,
Patricia (Penny) Duerksen of Norris; daughter, Virginia (Ginger) Fulton and
husband Kyle of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Matthew, Virginia Elizabeth,
Nicholas, and Kristina Fulton; sister, Mary Duerksen Sklar of Denver, Colo.;
mother-in-law, Katherine Creswell of Kingston; brother-in-law, Andy Hickey and wife
Julie of Georgia; nephews, Trey Sklar and wife Kristina and son Hans of
Arizona, Lt. Andy Sklar of Florida, and Drew Hickey of Georgia; and niece, Sarah
Hickey of Georgia. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15,
2005, at Norris Religious Fellowship Church with Dr. Keith Haverkamp officiating.
The family received friends in the fellowship hall following the service. His
burial followed at Norris Memorial Gardens. The family has requested memorials
be made to Norris Religious Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 267, Norris, TN
37828, Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, P.O. Box 1454, Knoxville, TN 37901, or the
CONTACT Helpline, P.O. Box 4641, Oak Ridge, TN 37831. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home
in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.

Joseph Peery Gillespie, 77, of Wytheville, Va., died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005.
He was the son of the late Peery B. and Annie Jackson Gillespie. He was a
former New Holland Machine Company Sales Representative and Wythe County Extension
Agent. He was a member of St. John Episcopal Church, member and past
president of the Wytheville Lions Club, and a member of Wytheville Golf Club. Mr.
Gillespie was a 1950 graduate of Virginia Tech and a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Betty Leece Gillespie of Wytheville;
daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Peery and Garland Gray II of Williamsburg, Martha
Elizabeth and Russell Holt of Palmyra; son, Samuel Leece Gillespie of
Fredericksburg; brother and sister-in-law, James T. Gillespie Sr., M.D., and Sara
Gillespie of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Martha Gray, Garland Gray III, Elmon Taylor
Gray II; several nephews and a niece also survive, including James T. Gillespie
Jr., M.D., and John M. Gillespie, of Knoxville. The memorial service was held
Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the St. John Episcopal Church conducted by the Rev.
Leland Smith. Visitation was held Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the home, 480
Church St., in Wytheville, Va. Interment was Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Maplewood
Cemetery in Tazewell, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John
Episcopal Church or to the Wytheville Lions Club. Grubb Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.

Patsy Elizabeth Pearson, 56, of Oak Ridge, died Sunday, October 16, 2005 at
her home. She was born December 4, 1948 in Fayetteville, Tenn., the daughter of
Billy and Earline Mercks Pearson, who are both deceased. Ms. Pearson was a
homemaker and greatly enjoyed being involved in the lives of her children and
grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Richard Wayne Pearson of Florida; daughters
Michelle Dawn Smith and husband Jeff of Knoxville and Rebecca Rae Birmingham of Oak
Ridge and former son-in-law, John Birmingham of Oak Ridge; brothers, Bobby
Pearson, Ronnie Pearson and wife Teddy, Donald Hazelwood and wife Tammy and Roy
Hazelwood and wife, Lisa, all of Fayetteville; sisters Judy Holder and Allison
Shelton and husband Don, all of Fayetteville, and Lynn Quinby and husband Bob
of Kingston; six grandchildren, William Brandon Smith, Brittany Elizabeth Smith
and Shelby Dawn Smith, all of Knoxville, and Justin Andrew Pearson, Mahala
Rae Russell and Madison Marie Birmingham, all of Oak Ridge; and special friend,
Dawn Sabanovich of Oliver Springs. A memorial service will be held on
Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Glen Marlow
officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at
Weatherford Mortuary. An online guest book can be signed at

Tom Montgomery Gayle, 79, of Oak Ridge, passed away Monday Oct. 17, 2005, at
his home. Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements,
which are incomplete at press time.

Dr. Samuel Gene McNeeley Sr., of Norris, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2005,
at his residence. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all
arrangements, which were incomplete at press time.
