TERRY, MRS. KATHERINE KELLY - age 89, born in the Joyner Community,
UNDERWOOD, THOMAS ALFORD - age 86, of Clinton,

CROSS, VENA BURRESS - age 93, of Knoxville passed away Tuesday, January 03,
2006 at Shannondale Nursing Home. Early in life, she taught at several schools
in Campbell County. She was a member of Nick Creek Baptist Church for 81
years. Preceded in death by Husband; Simon Cross, Parents; Perry (Babe) & Bidia
Lowe Burress, Brothers; Ova, Roy, and R.E. Burress, Infant sister; Geneva.
Survivors: daughter: Kathy Cross Highfill; granddaughter: Anita & husband Kenny
Moore; grandson: Joe & wife Lisa Highfill; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters: Juanita
Burress Lowe, Cleta Burress Thomas all of Knoxville; several nieces & nephews
and grand nieces & nephews. Funeral service 1 PM Thursday Cross Chapel with
Rev. Keith Massengale officiating. Interment Riverview Cemetery in Smokey
Junction. The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd floor at Shannondale
and the 2nd floor of the Comfort Care for their kindness and loving care.
Pallbearers: Ray Burress, Joe Highfill, Edward Lowe, Kenny, Travis, & Wes Moore.

LEINART, DANIEL - age 81, a resident of Union Township, formerly of Clinton
passed away December 29, 2005 at Clermont Mercy Hospital. He was an Amateur
Radio Operator for 33 years using the call sign, N8AIN. He was a proud member of
the National Rifle Association. Loving husband of the late Margaret Colby
Leniart; cherished father of Danna Baker, Donna (Craig Krieger) Leinart, Everett
(Debbie) Leinart, Marie (Rick) Weber and Charlene (Terry) Smith; dear
grandfather of Chris, McKinzie, Kelly, Cati, Dan, Jen, Shandon, Rich, Heather, Kyla,
Monica, Melanie, Melissa, and Mark. Also survived by nephews, James (Sugar) &
Daniel Freeman; niece, Joyce (Ron Anderson) and Allie Freeman; cousins, Ronnie,
Charlie, Tony and Briton Leinart and Eve Crow; many great grandchildren. The
family will receive friends 1:00-4:00 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at Holley-
Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel with Rev.
David Hanes officiating. His burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements.

SHELBY, ROMA E. - age 92, of Lafollette, passed away Monday, January 2, 2006
at St. Mary's Medical Center of Campbell County. He was owner and operator,
with brother Marion Shelby and son Glenn, of Shelby Grocery Store for over 60
years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lafollette. Preceded in death
by parents; Anderson H. Shelby & Samantha McNeeley Shelby, stepmother; Martha
Shelby, brothers; Marion, Luther and Bill Shelby, sisters; Nora Robbins,
Maggie Miller, Hettie Housley, Stella Heatherly, Mary Housley, Alma Snodderly
Sebaugh, Ann Blankenship and Vietta Miller. Survivors: wife: Carrie Lee Claiborne
Shelby, Lafollette; son: Glenn & Judi Shelby, Jacksboro; daughter & son-in-law:
Mary Elizabeth & Jack Higdon, Charlotte, NC; grandsons: Robert J. Higdon, Jr.
and wife, Corinne, Cary, NC, John Shelby Higdon and wife, Jill, Greenville,
SC; great-grandsons: Clay & Matthew Higdon. Funeral service 10 AM Thursday
Cross Chapel with Rev. Lane Harris officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. In

TERRY, MRS. KATHERINE KELLY - age 89, born in the Joyner Community, Oct. 19,
1916, passed away Monday morning, January 2, 2006, in the Life Care Center
Morgan Co.. Katherine lived in this community until she marred, then she lived in
Maryville, Tenn. with her husband, William (Bill) Terry for sixty years till
his death, August 21, 2002. After his death Katherine lived in the Oak Ridge
Retirement Center for two years and later at the Life Care Center Morgan Co.
Katherine enjoyed gardening and had thousands of flowers in her yard. Her yard
was listed on the parade of garden tours in Maryville. She was a member of the
Broadway Baptist Church. Katherine was preceded in death by husband, Bill
Terry; parents, Douglas and Hilda Smith Kelly, six brothers; Wade, Clyde, Smith,
Bert, LeRoy and ArnLic. Surviving sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and
Gerald Whaley, of the Joyner Community, Daisy and Bob Brooks, of Coalfield;
brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Carol Kelly, of Ohio; five sisters-in-law and
one brother-in-law; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family
will receive friends Wednesday evening, Jan. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. Schubert
Funeral Home, Wartburg, with funeral services to follow, with her brother, Rev.
Frank Kelly officiating. Interment services will be held Thursday 11 A.M., Jan.
5, 2006, in Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Maryville, Tn.

UNDERWOOD, THOMAS ALFORD - age 86, of Clinton, went home to be with the Lord,
Monday, January 2, 2006 at his residence. He was a member of First Baptist
Church in Clinton and retired from Oak Ridge Postal Service as a postman after
23 years of service. Thomas is a veteran of the United States Army and Lt. Col.
having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He is preceded in
death by wife, Helen H. Underwood; parents, Bird L. and Mary Allie Brooks
Underwood; brother, Bird L. Underwood; sister, Geneva Brock; sister-in-law, Mary
Graham. Survivors: sister-in-law, Lana Saunders of Clinton; nieces, Wanda Van
Hooser & husband Jack of Nashville, Carolyn Miles of Maryville, Deborah Sturino &
husband Joe of Marrero, LA, Pamela Starks & husband Randy of Oakwood Hills,
ILL; nephews, Mark Saunders & wife Sue of Lake City, David Saunders & wife
Virginia of Clinton, Phil Saunders & wife Janet of Clinton, John Saunders & wife
Teresa of Texas, Tom Saunders & wife Patty of Clinton, Jack Van Hooser Jr. & wife
Suzy of Bartlett, TN, David Van Hooser & wife Joan of Hendersonville; several
great nieces and nephews and 3 great great nieces and nephews. The family
will receive friends 1:00-3:00 PM, Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Holley-Gamble
Funeral Home. His graveside service will follow at Woodhaven Memorial Garden with
Rev. Joe Bridges officiating. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in
charge of all arrangements.
