Established in 1778 the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church is the oldest organized
Baptist church in Tennessee. It is now located at Gray, Washington County,
TN about 3 or 4 miles from it's original location. The Buffalo Ridge Baptist
Church Cemetery is still located where the first church was and is
maintained by the Holston Baptist Association, Johnson City, TN.
The first minister was Tidence Lane who established the church in 1778. The
church did not join an association until several years later.
The Rev Lane later began a church near Whitesburg, TN and is buried at that
church's cemetery. The second minister of the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church
was the Rev. Jonathan Mulkey. He is buried at the old church cemetery. The
Rev. Mulkey's family had spread the Gospel all the way to Oregon by 1854.
Where they can be found on census records.

Hi list! I am trying to find out where Buffalo Ridge was back in 1900. It is
in District 12 in Washington County, TN. It is now Gray and another town.
Does anyone know where I can find a map online of just Washington County
that
actually names all the towns back before the 1900's? Please let me know.
Thanks for your help.
