A fond memory of mine always took place in Weakley Co. Whenever my family
and I would come home from Knoxville, most of the time we would gather at my
Aunt Edith's (Edith Cook McClain, daughter of Clinton Byrl and Florence Lee
Tucker Cook)) house for a get-together. Tables would be lined up under the
BIG old trees in their front yard. For Uncle Walter (Walter McClain son of
Jack and Molly McClain) the more the merrier. The tables would be loaded
with all kinds of foods including the Green Tomato Ketsup (green tomatoes in
brine). There was always country ham especially for my daddy. He always
claimed that it was impossible to get good country ham in East Tennessee.
The kids had free reign with lots of laughter and running and playing (even
a little kissing cousin stuff going on).
Another favorite memory was when we would arrive at Aunt Edith's and Uncle
Walter's, I would take off across the rode to visit with Miss Ethel and Mr.
Clarence Berryman. One of the biggest hollow places in my heart is when I
go there know is that both Miss Ethel and Mr. Clarence are gone.
Another thrill was Daddy driving those hilly roads fast enough so that my
sister and I would "lose" our stomachs. Then he would just laugh.
Momories! Ah, Sweet Memories!
