Mr. Len Milner:

I saw your post on the Weakley Mailing List regarding M.Z. Hankins and I'm
curious as to how you might be connected to him.

My connection/interest is in his father Samuel and Samuel's wife, "Miss
Howe". I've done quite a bit of research in NC and Tn on these two families trying
to figure out their connection, if any, to my Howe family. The lands in Tn.
that Samuel ended up with were lands awarded to Maj. Gen. Robert Howe for his
service in the Revolutionary War. When this award was made, Maj. Gen. was
already deceased, and the land went to his only male heir, Robert Howe. Robert,
Jr. willed the land to Samuel. Robert, Jr. also made references to Samuel
Hankins as "my good friend" and as "brother". Perhaps a brother-in-law???

I've traced my Howe line back to Benton Co. Tn to William Howe who died in
1843. According to census info, he was born about 1790 in NC and his wife
Catherine (Unknown) born about 1800. William was on the 1840 Benton Co census and
the 1830 Humphreys Co. census--then I hit my brick wall.

An interesting fact about William & Catherine Howe's family is that they used
a lot of "Z"s in their childrens' given names--Zilvon, Zebede/Zebedu,
Alzivan, Emzley--and I note you list Mr. Hankins's name as Marcus "Zerah".

Any information you can give me on these two families will be greatly
appreciated. I've been looking for William Howe's line for 6 years.

Elaine
