Subject: [TNWHITE] Rice and Hitchcock: Floyd, Perry Counties, KY and White Co. TN

I am wondering if there is any proof of the parentage of Samuel Rice, born
1795 who married Pheobe Hitchcock 24 December 1815 in Floyd County, KY?? His
parents are given as a John Rice and a Sarah Fleming.
I strongly suspect a tie-in with my bunch in White county, TN. I find it
fascinating that Samuel had a son, Marion Rice, born about 1845, according
to the LDS records, which many times are suspect.
My gg grandfather was Marion Rice, born January 1833 to John A. Rice and
Sarah Howell in White county, TN.
Also, Marion's grandfather, William B. Rice, had as a witness to his will
in DeKalb County, TN in 1845, Elijah Hitchcock!!! Elijah was a preacher who
lived next door to William Rice near the Falling Water River.
The area of Perry, Harlan, Knox Counties are very close to the Cumberland
Gap, at Claiborne County, TN. There is a great presence of the John ADAMS
family there. His widow is proven to have sold land in Claiborne County, TN
to her son-in-law, Joshua Botts in December 1810. Thus, we know this is the
John Adams family from Wilkes County, N.C., where the older William Rice who
married Mary Owsley, resided with Joshua Botts, John and Ann (Stephens)
Owsley-Adams, and John and Charity (Barton) Owsley. The name "Matthew
Adams" also appears in Perry County. An older Matthew Adams married Ann
Owsley, daughter of John and Ann (Stephens) Owsley, in Rowan County, N.C. in
1780.
This Hitchcock connection may be a tie-in between my William B. Rice and
Samuel Rice of Floyd/Perry county, KY. He is said to have died in Johnson
County, KY in 1870.
What is known on the lineage of Elijah Hitchcock? Could he be a
descendant of William Hitchcock (1710-1772) and Susannah Slade of Baltimore
County, MD?
Thanks
Will
