I can't do Worley and Underwood-- the closest I can
get is Worley and Gaston. James Worley married Jennet
Gaston about 1830. They seem to be a couple with no
children on the 1830 census. About 1831, John Gaston
gave/sold to his daughter Jennet and her husband James
Worley his land in White Co., Tennessee. I have a
sneaky suspicion that Jennet's mother and John's wife
was Jane Porter, the daughter of John Porter and
Sarah/Sallie LNU. I have this sneaky suspicion
because Jane Gaston signed the sale papers for the
land of John Porter in the 1830 to 1835 period. Then,
there is an appropriately aged James Worley family on
the 1840 Marion County, TN census right next door to
an appropriately aged Jane Gaston. Jane Gaston was
living by herself. There was even a record in Marion
County, TN where James Worley bought a cow from Jane
Gaston. At least three other children of John Porter
& Sarah/Sallie LNU moved to Marion County, Tennessee
prior to 1840 so it's at least possible this Marion
County group came out of White County! Then, they all
disappear before the 1850 census. According to the
1840 census, Jane Gaston was born between 1780 and
1790. This would have made her one of the elder
children of John and Sarah/Sallie Porter. James
Worley and Jennet Gaston were born between 1800 and
1810 if I remember correctly. There are indications
that Jennet would have been born in Tennessee... but
where might James have been born? Were the White
County Worleys in Tennessee prior to 1810?
Thank you,
