Donna - Thank you for posting the info on early settlements in Wilson County.
Several of the names were of interest to me. Dawson Hancock was my 3rd great
uncle, son of Samuel, my 3rd great grandfather. Samuel came with Dawson from
NC to Wilson, TN. Samuel died 1813 in Wilson, TN. Other family members came
later.
Dawson Hancock bought 67 acres 15 Jam 1811. On 17 Apr 1815 he bought 110 acres
on Round Lick; 23 Dec 1819 he bought 300 acres on Barton's Creek; 22 Apr 1819
he bought 107 acres on Barton's Creek; 28 Sep 1821 he bought 89 acres on
Barton's Creek; and on 11 Aug 1826 he bought 88 acres on Pond Lick Creek.
John Hancock, Dawson's brother, and my great great grandfather, on 14 Sep 1812
bought 77 acres on Pond Lick; 12 Jul 1815 h e bought 640 acres on the So. side
of Cumberland River; Oct 1816 he bought 100 acres on Spring Creek.
Richard Hancock on 1 Sep 1812 bought 20 acres on Smith's Fork; 19 Jul 1815
bought 62 acres on Clear Fork; 8 Apr 1820 bought 130 acres on Hickman's Creek;
10 Jan 1823 bought 65 acres on Smith's Fork; and 24 Mar 1821 bought 100 acres
on Hurricane Creek.
Simon Hancock on 6 Jul 1811 bought 160 acres on Barton's Creek; 18 Oct 1817 50
acres; 22 Sep 1818 8 acres; 3 Feb 1821 48 acres, all on Barton's Creek.
Samuel Hancock on 7 Oct 1816 bought 235 acres on the Sp. side of Cumberland
River. Wesley Hancock on 31 Aug 1820 bought 60 acres on Sinking Creek.
Skean Hancock on 17 Jun bought 84 acres on Spring Creek; 19 Sep 1822 bought 60
acres on Barton's Creek; Dec 1827 bought 50 acres on Round Lick Creek; and 10
Nov 1827 bought 87 acres on Round Lick Creek.
These Hancocks sold some of these lands to Etheldred Clemmons, John Clemmons,
John Skeen, Clinton Baird, James Richmond, Lemuel Hickman, Hugh Marrs, John
Hickman, and Jesse Wade.
I am especially interested in learning more about Aquila Suggs and Benjamin
Hooker of Suggs Creek and of any Suggs connections to Allen or Avery.
