Minnie,
An article written in the Nov. 1985 "Country Living", pp. 61-63, a woman by
the name of Sophia Fairfield Wheat made a quilt depicting a Weed family
genealogy which took 9 years to complete. She was 83 years of age. Depicted
on the quilt was "From Yorkshire England Jonas Weed landed at Watertown, Mass
in 1631. In 1642 Jonas Weed moved to Stamford, Ct., and received a lot and
house from the founding fathers. 23 Weeds from the Town of Stamford, Ct.
took part in the Revolutionary War. This was not extraordinary as the family
had been in Fairfield, Co. for 134 years. This was about 1/5 of all the
males by that name. Ananis Weed joined the Rev. forces in 1775, became a
prominent soldier at White Plains, elsewhere in NY. He took part in the New
Jersey campaign including the Battle of Trenton on Dec. 26, 1776. Ananias
was on Washington's commissary staff at Valley Forge winter quarters - 1777."
I think a genealogy quilt is a great idea for your family. The task of
including all Townsend families would be too daunting, don't you think?
