Jodee, there are books on this subject, like Ira Wolfman's book " Climbing Your Family
Tree: Online and Off-line Genealogy for Kids (and Other Beginners)," described at
http://www.writers.net/writers/books/20261 .
There are websites like "USGenWeb Kidz" at http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgwkidz and
"Genealogy for Kids" at http://www.genealogyspot.com/features/kids.htm . You can find
others by googling
genealogy +children.
Also, check the Cyndi's List page "Kids & Teens" at http://www.cyndislist.com/kids.htm .

Has anyone had experience doing a basic genealogy presentation for elementary school
students? In our district, Immigration and family history is covered in 4th grade (9 and
10 year olds) and done in conjunction with the class trip to Ellis Island. I would like to
offer to go in and talk to the students, but am not sure how interested they would be - my
own kids just block me out when I start telling them about their great-great-
grandparents. I keep doing it though, thinking that it will sink in despite their
indifference. :-)
I thought perhaps I could send home a questionnaire in advance, asking parents to fill-out
some basic information. On the day of the talk, I could show them how I research on-line
and "find" one of their families.
Any other ideas or suggestions?
