Make that "your Federal Land lecture," not "you're." Maybe it's time for me
to close up shop for the day?

Okay, I think I may have misunderstood something quite basic: what kind of
file am I in possession of? I am doing Lesson 9 of the NGS course, which is
the Federal Land lesson.

As I look read the lesson once more, I looked at the descriptions of:
1. Credit entry
2. Cash entry
3. Donation entry
4. Homestead entry

Because this Crowder file was a cash sale, I assumed it was a cash entry.
But the cash entry description doesn't include the documents that the
Homestead description does; specifically, testimony of claimant and
testimony of two witnesses.

Am I on the right track here?

(Claire Bettag, if you monitor this list, you're Federal Land lecture at
IGHR was brilliant. Too bad I didn't retain every word of it!)

Was it the dates of the record subgroup that I was missing?

1. Jane E. Crowder (Howell County) cash entry file, certificate no.
2050, Ironton, Missouri, Land Office; Land Entry Papers, 1800-1908; Records
of the Bureau of Land Management, Record Group 49; National Archives,
Washington, D.C.

No dates should be attached, no mention that she completed her deceased
husband's original app?

Janis,

I can't answer this today because of pressing deadline. But read EE 11.1 and
the several pages of 11.8. (Yes, I know that 11.8 has the word "microfilm"
in its header, but the basic principles are the same.) After you read it,
post a follow-up to tell us what you think your citation is missing and how
you think you can go about getting the missing detail. Okay?

I need help with this citation. Yes, I have consulted EE, and found a number
of pertinent references, but remain confused.

Background:

2 Nov 1872 Bluford A. Crowder makes application (no. 4388), Howell Co MO,
Ironton MO land office

13 March 1879, Bluford A. Crowder dies in Howell Co

31 March 1879, Jane E. Crowder, widow of Bluford, Homestead Proof, Testimony
of Claimant

6 Oct 1881, Letters patent issued to Jane E. Crowder, widow of Bluford;
Homestead certificate no. 2050, application no. 4388

Documents I pulled at the National Archives, RG 49

Citation?

1. Jane E. Crowder (Howell County), cash entry file,
certificate no. 2050, Ironton, Missouri, Land Office; Records of the Bureau
of Land Management, Record Group 49; National Archives, Washington, D.C.

Thanks for any input on this!
